Sunset Carpet Tile Bid
The board of education approved the bid of Ritter Tile Shop in the amount of $25,992.00 to replace flooring at Sunset Elementary School.
 
Salina Stadium Annex Bid
The board of education approved the bid of Harbin Construction, LLC in the amount of $288,900.00 for the remodel of the showers and restrooms and the construction of a referee's dressing room at the Salina Stadium Annex.
 
Set Special Meeting
The board of education approved a special meeting for Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at the district office for the purpose of receiving a report from the Dragun Corporation.
 
Proposed Textbook Adoptions
Linn Exline, executive director of school improvement, reviewed and evaluated the following textbooks: (1) Chemistry: The Central Science, Pearson Education (2015); (2) Myer's Psychology for AP, Worth (2014); (3) The Practice of Statistics, W.H. Freeman and Company (2015); (4) Chemistry: Matter &  Change, Glencoe McGraw-Hill (2017); (5) Discovering French Today, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (2013); (6) Exploring Psychology, Worth (2016); (7) Human Anatomy & Physiology (2016); and (8) Glencoe Physical Science, McGraw-Hill (2017).
 
Sound System and Video Board at Salina Stadium
Linn Exline, executive director of school improvement and Mike Nulton, executive director of operations, presented information explaining a Daktronics sound/video system that will replace the current sound system at Salina Stadium with the addition of video capabilities.
 
School Board Committee Reports
  • Ann Zimmerman, board member, attended the Head Start Policy Council meeting.
  • Nedra Elbl, vice president, attended a Salina Education Foundation meeting, the South High National Honor Society induction and joined fellow board members on a tour through bond projects at Coronado, Meadowlark and Oakdale. She participated in interviews for the new Central High School principal.
  • Mary Anne Trickle, board member, and Nedra Elbl attended the Emporia State University Master Teacher ceremony where Nikki chamberlain was honored.
  • Carol Brandert, board member, was the guest speaker at the National Honor Society induction ceremony at South High School.

Superintendent's Report
Mr. William D. Hall, superintendent of schools, thanked Mike Strand, Salina Journal reporter, for his many years reporting about Salina USD 305. Mr. Hall recognized staff selected as Teachers of the Year for next year, Linda Rohrer, Sunset music teacher, and Jake Montoya, Lakewood and Central band instructor. Mr. Hall invited everyone to the Coronado ribbon cutting ceremony on April 18 at 6:30 p.m. He noted that the Oakdale ribbon cutting has been postponed until next school year. Mr. Hall welcomed both Mr. Showman, new principal at Central High School, and Mr. Chrisman, new assistant principal at South High School. Mr. Hall updated the board about the legislative session and reported the he will be part of a group giving an early review of the proposed school funding formula. Mr. Hall attended programs in schools including a Happy Bear program at Oakdale and the Food Service Appreciation event.
 
Executive Session
The board of education recessed into executive session for negotiations and personnel.
