Hey Salmon Bay!

This year has been BANANAs and it is time for us to SPLIT for the summer! Being blessed with the honorific title of Top Banana has its plusses and minuses…. But on the whole it has been very a-PEEL-ing to lead this BUNCH!

Thanks for all your generosity of time, treasure and talent that you have invested in this school community. There will always be work to do to grow and expand and change and be responsive to the world and community needs. Together Salmon Bay can do hard things. Stay healthy and connected. Be kind to yourself and others.

Have a great summer – and keep learning and growing. You are a part of my heart.

Neil
Thank you, Principal Neil , for your leadership, care and support during the past 7 years! Best wishes on your upcoming adventures!
Salmon Bay Connections
Hailey Spencer joined the Salmon Bay staff this year as a Special Education Instructional Assistant. You might recognize her in the photo above. What you probably don’t know is that Hailey is standing in front of another picture of herself as a 6th grade student at Salmon Bay. That’s right, Hailey attended middle school at Salmon Bay! She has clear memories of having Joel for homeroom, Joelle for PE, and Hien for Math. She was also in one of Glyde’s Shakespeare productions in 8th grade (The Two Gentlemen of Verona) and did snowboarding for the Winter Enrichment Program. Hailey also remembers trips to Golden Gardens to learn about and clear out invasive plants as part of 6th grade service learning. As we say goodbye to our most recent graduates, it’s exciting to think that our paths may cross again in the future!

Promotion Celebrations
Congratulations to our 5th and 8th grade students! We had a ton of fun celebrating with you during our drive-thru promotion events. Have a wonderful summer break - you've earned it!

Attention 2021-2022 Salmon Bay Middle School Families - Athletics Information
Next year we are looking forward to having athletics start back up for all seasons although the seasons may look slightly different (more information to come from the district).

Sports we typically offer:
Fall: Girls Soccer, Co-Ed Ultimate
Winter: Girls and Boys Basketball
Spring: Co-Ed Track, Co-Ed Ultimate, Boys Soccer, Girls Volleyball

The following is needed if you have a potential student-athlete in your household(s):

1.Please fill out the following survey for the Athletics office to track how many folks have interest in playing middle school sports next year (even if you are unsure, please input potential sports choices): Salmon Bay Sports Survey

2.There is a lot of paperwork to be fully prepared to play sports in the fall. If you start now, you will be ready to go for the Fall and won’t have to scramble to get them done in the week or so before sports starts in the Fall.

Go to THIS LINK to find your forms. You need ALL forms completed. The only forms that you will have choice on are the sport-specific ones. For example: you don’t have to complete a basketball consent form if you are playing soccer.

Finally, if your student has recently (within the last year) had a sports physical AND they have turned paperwork in to me, you will be good for that and won’t need to complete it. However, if you didn’t complete one over the 2020-2021 school year, it will be expired by next Fall and will need to be completed again.

A tip: As the Fall approaches, doctors get SWAMPED with requests for physicals. I would recommend scheduling much sooner than August to avoid the rush. ALSO, the nurse and the Neighborhood Clinic at Ballard HS (and other high schools where an NC is available) can do physicals!!! Call and schedule as soon as you can!
If you have ANY questions, please feel free to email me.
Thank you,
Salmon Bay Athletic Director
We made it! This has been a year like no other. Thank you for your partnership, patience and support. Take time to celebrate with your students. We are so proud of how hard they have worked this year and the resilience they have shown!
Enjoy the sunshine! We look forward to seeing you next fall and hearing about your summer adventures!
