Hey Salmon Bay Community,
We have 19 days left of school and these are going to fly by! We are excited to be planning for a full return to 5 days a week of school next year as the outlook for both vaccinations and cases in our city continue to trend positively.
We are working on class placements for the coming year, developing middle school schedules, planning for a strong end to the year.
One of the processes that we have been asked to undertake is a collection of all devices – laptops, Ipads, Ipad keyboards, chargers, hotspots, etc. – that have been checked out to families. These will be gone through this summer in preparation for a redistribution in the fall. We are planning for collection events during the last week of school and the first few days of the following week for families/students that are not planning to participate in SPS’s summer learning programs. Stay tuned for more specifics, but wanted to put this on your radar.
For those planning to participate in summer learning programs, we will plan to have another device drop-off option at the beginning of August as classes will run from July 6 to July 30, Monday through Friday (except the first week, which starts on Tuesday due to the 4th of July holiday).
Stay Healthy and Connected!

Hello friends! I hope that you are doing well. Things are moving at a brisk pace now. With only 19 days left in the school year, it’s remarkable to think back on what we all have endured this year. We have a lot to celebrate moving forward: vaccine clinics, 5th grade and 8th grade promotions, and a summer break that looks to be more positive than last year’s. I hope that you are feeling optimistic. As always, please reach out to Jenny Brooks, here, or me, here, for any support.
Sincerely,
Rob Bright

Attention 8th Grade Families
One of our Salmon Bay traditions is to celebrate our kids with an 8th Grade Promotion slideshow. There is a great team of 8th graders working on this with Glyde, but we also need your help!.
We are asking each family to send three pictures per 8th grader: one of your student now, one of them when they were younger and one in a group shot or at a Salmon Bay or class event. If you have a couple of group shots you like, great! We’ll take them!
We’d like to receive all photos by June 3.
Please save your photos using your child’s first and last name (so we can make sure that we’ve got photos for everyone!)
If you have any questions at all, please contact:
- sb8slideshow@gmail.com
- Nadege Mohr (mom of Sebastien) at 206.227.7723
- Meghan Shepard (mom of Hugh) at 206.321.0978

Middle School News - W.E.B. Program
Attention 7th Grade Families:
This week teacher-Sam visited your student’s Homeroom class and presented information about our W.E.B. (Where Everyone Belongs) mentorship program. Current 7th grade students who are interested in becoming a W.E.B. Leader/peer mentor next school year are encouraged to apply.
Our current W.E.B. Leaders are holding a Q&A session this coming Wednesday, May 19th at 9:00 am. Students can join this informational meeting using this Teams Link if they would like to hear about the program from the perspective of our current W.E.B. Leaders. (This information has also been emailed to students.)
If a student is selected as a W.E.B. Leader, they will attend a two-day leadership training at Salmon Bay (maybe Teams/Zoom) in late August and then partner with Salmon Bay staff to run 6th grade orientation. During next school year, each W.E.B. Leader will be partnered with another W.E.B. leader and they will run monthly social and academic check-ins with a group of about ten 6th grade students.
As staff, we will review all applications in early June and select leaders that represent the diversity (gender, race, values, experiences, personalities, learning styles, etc.…) of Salmon Bay. You will find more information about the W.E.B. program in the application and introductory PowerPoint video.
Applications are due by Friday, May 28th. Applications need to be handed to Sam at school or emailed to soolson@seattleschools.org.

Dear Salmon Bay,
Our final meeting is June 10th at 7:00p via Zoom. We’ll be electing new Directors and Officers for next year. We’ve had some interest in the open positions but we’re still happy to hear from parents that can help guide our community next year. We’re hoping to have our leadership positions filled and more Directors join at our June meeting so FOSB can enter next year with lots of support and energy.
Being a Director is a great way to begin at FOSB and learn about the school. You attend meetings, stay engaged, and vote on items that come to the floor. See this page on our website for more information.
Officers for next year:
MS Co-chair - Open
K-5 Co-chair - Shawna Sullivan
Treasurer - Samsi (Samsara) Martin-Gray
Treasurer - Brian LeBlanc
Secretary - Kelly Tilford
Directors for next year:

Food Support at Salmon Bay
Students are invited to pick up a lunch (and breakfast for p.m. cohorts) prior to leaving school each day. Meals are "grab-and-go" style and are to be consumed off campus.
Meals are free for any student (not just those who qualify for free/reduced meals). Families who do qualify are encourage to fill out free/ reduced meal paperwork because there are additional benefits that might be helpful.
Families are also encouraged to visit any of the SPS dedicated meal sites to pick up a variety of meals including hot entrees, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen dinners provided by FareStart and weekend pantry bags. Adams Elementary and Whittier Elementary are two close meal sites, open between 10:45 am - 1:15 pm daily.
In addition, students can request a weekend food bag provided by the Ballard Food Bank. To arrange for a weekend food bag, please email Jodi Russell, Volunteer Coordinator.
