Talking to Youth About Heated Topics
with Rosetta Lee

Tuesday, March 10
7:00pm Salmon Bay School cafetorium
1810 NW 65th St, Seattle 98117 (enter on 18th)

Young people can bear witness to challenging and/or traumatic events in current events, media, and our local communities. They often process thoughts, feelings, and reactions without our explicit help and guidance - thereby increasing their confusion and anxiety.

Adults have a natural instinct to protect their children from harsh realities, yet want to prepare them to navigate our complex world - is it possible to do both?
  • How can we talk about identity, difference, and justice in age appropriate ways?
  • How do you reinforce your family's values while maintaining respect for other perspectives?
  • How do you coach children toward authentic and respectful dialogue across differences?
  • Engage in these questions and more through this interactive session.

Family Needs

Support the Anderson Family!
Milo (Kindergarten) and his younger sister, Marley (2), just welcomed two new sisters to their family. Milo's parents, Max and Jacqueline, would love support as they get used to being a family of six.  Here are some ways to help:

*  Holding the babies: the family would LOVE visitors to come and hold/feed the babies so they can do other things around the house.
*  Playdates with Milo (especially for families also in Amy's class)
*  Gift cards: The family shops at QFC and Amazon and this support would be extremely helpful. Any amounts welcome. please drop these off in the main ofice, attn Jenny Brooks.
*   GoFundMe site: the family has set up a GoFundMe site to help with their increased expenses.

Please reach out to Jenny Brooks or Caitlin Racey if you would like to help.
With gratitude,
Jenny B.

Family Seeking Housing
We are a family of 4, plus our dog, needing temporary housing until May.
We unfortunately had to move out of our home due to toxic mold. We all were sick from the mold with high levels of mycotoxins. Until it is remediated, and construction is completed we can't move back in.

We would be happy to take care of animals or pet it. We are looking for mostly weekday housing.

Also, needing to find a foster home for our gunnies pig Snickers. We will provide everything needed for his living and expenses.

In gratitude,
Bridget

Please call 206-371-5961 or email if you can help.

From Admin

Hello Salmon Bay Families,

As this is being written, the sun is shining, the school building is brimming with enthusiasm with our K-5 students engaging in varying WEP activities and special projects, and our middle school students are making the city and surrounding terrain even brighter with their collective positive energy. Oh, and it's Valentine's Day to boot!

Today marked the completion of WEP for the 2019/20 school year. This was showcased in our 1st Annual WEP Celebration and Dance Party held this morning for K-5 students and many, many family members. Who would have known the kids had so much energy? (Questioned zero adults affiliated with Salmon Bay students). Also, 2/3 of our middle school students partook in our 20th Annual Ski/Snowboard Weenie Roast up at Snoqualmie Pass. All in all, an apropos finish to a series of experiences designed to enhance learning and to build community. Thanks to all adults who had a role in planning, facilitating, chaperoning, wrangling, etc. Special thanks go to all students who brought their best selves to each and every WEP day. Extra, special thanks goes to Jodi Russell for assuming the lion's share in the planning and coordinating of all things WEP. When you see her, be sure to offer thanks.

Whether you are going on vacation, having a staycation or enjoying a daycation next week, we hope that you find ample time to connect with loved ones, go on adventures and otherwise make lasting memories. We look forward to seeing you as we return from break with smiles on our faces and a bit of Spring in our step.

In partnership,

Darren, Annie and Neil
