 Committee Meetings

 RockFerFOSB 2020
"Hey - I've got an idea...Let's put on a show to raise some money for the school!!!"

Twenty years ago, a group of music-loving Salmon Bay parents got together, and - in the best tradition of Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland - decided it would be fun to put on a show. Thus was born RockFerFOSB, a mostly-annual Fun Night Out (and fund raiser for Friends of Salmon Bay). Might you be interested in finding others with whom to make live music onstage? Come join us at Zeeks on Phinney , Wednesday 12 February,  at 7 P.M. to find out how. In the meantime, watch the RockFerFOSB Facebook page ,  or if Facebook's got you down, email RockFerFOSB at gmail .

Family Seeking Housing

We are a family of 4, plus our dog, needing temporary housing until May.
We unfortunately had to move out of our home due to toxic mold.  We all were sick from the mold with high levels of mycotoxins. Until it is remediated, and construction is completed we can't move back in.

We would be happy to take care of animals or pet it.  We are looking for mostly weekday housing.

Also, needing to find a foster home for our gunnies pig Snickers. We will provide everything needed for his living and expenses.

In gratitude,
Bridget

Please call 206-371-5961 or email if you can help.

From Admin
Dear Salmon Bay Community Members,

We have just crossed over the half-way point of our year.  With the finish line, not yet in sight, the fresh energy and enthusiasm worn off, and the weather glum - it is easy for all of us to be a bit irritable and impatient.  I'm writing today to invite all of our community to be a counterpoint to the crankiness with kindness and positivity.  Our children benefit from our examples and emulate what they see in us.

If there are problems at school, with a system, with a teacher, with administration - we invite your partnership in trying to solve these.  We don't want problems to fester.  While it is easy for most of us to point out what could be better - building that better school experience or relationship takes investment of time and a willingness to deeply discuss issues and examine possible solutions.

The building leadership team in the coming weeks will be developing our budget for the coming year.  This work is important as it requires us to set out priorities and work together to make the allocation of resources blossom into the programs, materials and personnel we hope will support students and this school community.

Your partnership, your smiles and your words of encouragement to teachers, custodians, students, staff and volunteers help lift and restore spirits that may be low.  We hope when you are on our campus that you also receive and benefit from a positive energy.  Together we can counter the worst weather and make the sun shine.

To Sunshine and Kindness,

Neil

Young people can bear witness to challenging and/or traumatic events in current events, media, and our local communities. They often process thoughts, feelings, and reactions without our explicit help and guidance - thereby increasing their confusion and anxiety.
- Adults have a natural instinct to protect their children from harsh realities, yet want to prepare them to navigate our complex world - is it possible to do both?
- How can we talk about identity, difference, and justice in age appropriate ways?
- How do you reinforce your family's values while maintaining respect for other perspectives?
- How do you coach children toward authentic and respectful dialogue across differences?
Engage in these questions and more through this interactive session.
-Download the event flyer here.

Our Salmon Bay Auction is our largest all-community event and fundraiser of the year! We'll be back at Hangar 30 in Magnuson Park on Friday, March 27 with doors opening at 6;30 p.m.

In order to make it a great evening, our Auction Planning Team is looking for:

It's a great way to collaborate with fellow Salmon Bay parents to support your school.Things like photography classes, cooking lessons, a group outing to a sporting event all make a great party. Or, maybe you want to host a murder mystery dinner, poker evening, cocktail hour at your home, a cooking or home preserving session, a Magic The Gathering get together, or a jewelry making evening. If you have an idea but are not sure how to implement it please, contact Rebecca Trlica or Danielle Steele. Or, click on and fill in this party form and we'll follow up with you!

In need of a Photographer! Our auction planning team is looking for an event photographer to capture all of the details we have planned. Open Enrollment & School Choice
Open Enrollment for School Choice Feb. 3 - 14th
Each student in Seattle Public Schools is assigned to a school based on where that student lives. Students may apply to attend a different school through the School Choice Process, which begins February 3, 2020.
If your student is currently attending an option school or another school that is not their attendance area school by choice, they can continue at this school until the highest grade offered without having to apply again. If your student is currently attending an option school but wishes to attend a neighborhood school in 2020-21, they will need to apply through the School Choice process.

Applying for Another School
If you are interested in requesting either an attendance area school or option school, other than your assigned school, you must submit a School Choice form. Only forms submitted during Open Enrollment Feb. 3 - 14, will receive tiebreakers such as the sibling tiebreaker which gives siblings priority in admissions.

Families are encouraged to apply during the Open Enrollment window. Applications received after Open Enrollment are date stamped and priority is based on the date in which the application is received. School Choice forms are available online during the Open Enrollment window, or at the John Stanford Center.

The results of Open Enrollment for the 2020-21 school year will be available online in April.

More information is available on the School Choice webpage.    Read more about change of school process for special education students here.

Reviewing Your Student's School Assignment
Next year's assignments are now available in the Assignment Lookup Tool on the district website. Please note that your child's school assignment may have changed due to new school boundaries and the opening of new schools in Fall 2019. To view your child's assignment, you will need your child's date of birth and student ID number. You can find your child's student ID by contacting Admissions at 206-252-0760 or checking your student's record on The Source.
