4th Grade Boats at Ballard Pool
Did you see the cardboard boats our 4th grade students constructed on display at the science fair or in the auditorium the past few weeks? Last week, those boats were put to the test at Ballard Pool!


Staff Talent Show Performance
It might be the beginning of a new tradition... the Salmon Bay Staff  Village People joined together to perform YMCA, this past Friday at the Elementary Talent Show. 

8th Grade Camp
Our 8th Grade students returned from four days at Camp Orkila on Friday evening! 

The scenery was beautiful, the biking a challenge and the time spent together celebrating our community was perfect!





Music Notes

Middle School Music  Concert 
On Tuesday, June 12th, the fabulous middle school musicians of Salmon Bay will be presenting their annual Spring Music Concert in the auditorium. Performing groups include our Marimba Bands, Junior Band and Senior Band.  All of your young musicians have been working very hard to prepare for this event and we are very excited to be performing for you! Everyone is invited to attend!

Friends of Salmon Bay (FOSB) is our parent teacher organization. All parents and guardians are members. 

Final Meeting of the School Year - June 11th
Various scheduling challenges caused us to move our meeting to Monday June 11, from 6:30-7:15 in the Cafeteria/ Auditorium.
 
We'll be celebrating volunteers and giving appreciations to key leaders. Our new assistant principal, Annie Parker, will also be visiting. Come join the conversation and give us your ideas for next year!
 
Preventing Risky Behaviors Parent Talk
We'll also be holding our final PIE (Parent Information Exchange) event after the FOSB meeting. Join us from 7:30 - 8:30 pm for a conversation on Preventing Risky Behaviors presented by Lisa Davidson, SPS Prevention & Intervention Manager. Learn about current trends, vaping, over the counter drugs and how to have tough conversations with your student about them.

Camp fees are based upon which camp your student attends and how many nights they stay. See below for a list of fees.  If you have not yet paid your student's camp fee or enrichment fee, please do so online here or by dropping off a check, payable to FOSB, in the Volunteer Coordinator's office.

Join us for our last PIE (Parent Information Exchange) presentation of the year on Monday, June 11th at 7:30 pm. We'll meet directly following the FOSB meeting, which begins at 6:30 pm. See the FOSB section below for more details.  


Volunteers Needed

Field Day Support on June 15th
One of the most fun volunteer tasks each year is filling up water balloons for field day. This is a great job for kids! 
If you can help fill up water balloons to be delivered at drop-off on June 15th (deliver to the upper field), sign up here

Jodi is still seeking another parent (or two) to assist with our Field Day Popsicle Station. Your reward is a lot of smiling children and we'll give you a popsicle too!

Middle School Sports

Middle School Yearbook
We are collecting middle school yearbook payments now! 
Checks will be collected before school in the Volunteer Coordinator's  office (in Carrie's office).  Online payments can be made thru SchoolPay. Check your email for additional details. 
 

Ballard High School Band info for 2018-19
Come and join band at BHS! Our nationally awarded programs will raise your musicianship and you will be part of the fun and camaraderie of BHS Band. Come to our Incoming 9th Grader Music Night on June 19th, 7:00 at BHS.  Please read this PDF for audition details and dates. Note: the auditions for percussion and the two higher bands are held THIS JUNE.
Jazz Band auditions will be held in the end of August.

Nathan Hale Music Performance
June 13 - Concert Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Chamber Orchestra in the Nathan Hale PAC. 

Roosevelt Jazz End of Year Concerts
Please come hear the Roosevelt Jazz Ensembles perform in their year end concerts.  All concerts are in the Performing Arts Theatre at 7:00 pm and are free to the public.  Concert dates are: June 12th/Vocal Jazz, June 13th/Jazz Bands II, III and IV, and June 14th/Jazz Band I.

Babysitter Training
Saturday, July 14th, 12:30pm to 4:30pm, Phinney Center Blue Building, $40-$50.   Gain the knowledge and skills to be a safe, confident babysitter. Learn about infant and child care, age appropriate toys, safety, injury prevention and how to handle emergencies.  Find out what parents expect and practice hands-on skills. Includes in-depth coverage of First Aid, Infant/Child CPR, and how to be safe at home alone while sitting. Students receive a Child and Babysitting Safety handbook at the end of class.  Instructor Ken Norris, a 26-year veteran of the Seattle Fire Department, has taught CPR for 15 years. Ages 11 and up.  Register here.

Seattle Cascades Frisbee Clinics
Seattle Cascades is Seattle's pro ultimate team. We combine forces with our elite women's teams to coach our clinics. Clinics are for all: beginner to advanced, all genders. Cost is $20 for the clinic, or $30 includes a disc, shorts, or shirt (one item). Scholarships are provided to all who need assistance.

Youth Ultimate Frisbee Tournament
UpDawg is a co-ed youth hat tournament put on by the University of Washington women's ultimate frisbee teams, Element and Big Bang. As a youth hat tournament, middle school (students currently in 5th-8th grade) players of all skill and experience levels register as individuals and are placed on teams with other middle schoolers to be coached by UW players and play games against other teams in the event. June 16th    Cost: $35 per player. Register here

2018 Roughrider Girls' Summer Hoops Camps

Ingraham Boys Basketball Camps in July
The camps are at Robert Eagle Staff Middle School and will be run by Ingraham's Head Coach, Malcolm Mack, his staff, and the Ingraham HS basketball players. The camps offer skill development, team competition, individual competition and guest speakers. Our camps emphasize proper sportsmanship, character development, respect for each other, and having fun! Hope to see you there!

Creative Coding Summer Camps

Summer Fun is a  unique performing and visual arts day camp for ages 7-12

Elementary Summer Camp

Ballard Youth Soccer
Fall soccer signup is now! Ballard Youth Soccer Club is always looking for players and coaches. If you have questions or need help with getting information please contact the Salmon Bay BYSC school liaison, Scott Koch.

Ballard Junior Football (BJF)
Ballard Junior Football is now accepting registrations for the 2018 season (August-October) with 50% off registration fees for first year players ($125 total)!  BJF has been around since 1962 and is dedicated to creating a positive, safe and fun football and cheer experience for all of its participants (ages 6-14).  To register or for more information, visit  www.ballardjuniorfootball.org/.  

North Seattle Junior Titans Football
This Seattle youth tackle football program is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals in a structured and positive environment. Open to children between the ages of 7-14. Players are assigned to a team by their age and weight. Practices begin August 6th@ Ingraham High School, and will be held Monday through Friday, through the end of August; then 3 times a week after Labor Day weekend.
