Students were treated to a morning of fun activities as part of our annual field day celebration. Thank you to Mr. G and all of our student helpers for make this such a successful event!

Even Principal Neil braved the super soaker station and spent the morning, like many students, in a happy but damp state.

Many classrooms are participating in fun celebrations and finishing final projects/ activities. This week I stopped by Dave's 3rd Grade classroom Marketplace and visited Kim's classroom as part of their Ocean Museum.

This squid was a hit!

Volunteer Opportunities

Your Help Is Needed
The end of the year is a whirlwind! We need volunteer support to staff year-end events and help our students celebrate their accomplishments. If you can help, please sign-up below.

5th Grade Promotion
Attention 3rd and 4th Grade Families:  At Salmon Bay, it has been a tradition that 3rd and 4th grade parents "pay it forward" by serving cake and punch at the 5th grade promotion. Next year, you'll have a chance to celebrate while another team of parents serves cake and punch to you.  Are you planning to come to 5th grade Promotion? Would you be willing to help slice and serve cake? Please  email Jodi  if you can help.

8th Grade Picnic
Eighth grade students will practice for promotion on the morning of June 26th. Following practice,  they will be treated to a picnic lunch at Salmon Bay. We need additional help from 8th grade parents at the picnic. This is one of your last chances to hang out with the 8th grade class! If you can help at the picnic, please sign up at this link.

Elementary News

The Bee Play/ The Zoo Play
On Tuesday June 25 at 1pm, the 5th grade one act play titled "The Zoo Play" (aka "The Bee Play") will be on the Salmon Bay stage.   Anyone from K-5 is welcome to come and watch.  The play is 30 mins long.
It is suitable for all audiences.
It is very wacky: three bees and their queen on one side; four animals in a zoo with their humans on the other; then an asteroid hits and everybody goes a little crazy.
Zombeeeees in the end. And a musical number with trombones, if we can pull it off.  What's better than that?  Please come join us for one last production!
Cheers,
Glyde & the 5th grade

Attention 4th Grade Families:
At Salmon Bay, it has been a tradition that 4th grade parents "pay it forward" by serving cake and punch at the 5th grade promotion. Next year, you'll have a chance to celebrate while another team of parents serves cake and punch to you.  Are you planning to come to 5th grade Promotion? Would you be willing to help slice and serve cake? Please email Jodi if you can help.

FOSB volunteer needs for the 2019-2020 school year
Several of our families have stepped into new roles for next year. Thank you! We still have an opening for our Elementary Co-Chair Role.

FOSB's co-chairs serve as meeting facilitators, collaborators, and advocates for families, students, and staff. We have an experienced co-chair returning to FOSB next year in the middle school co-chair role. If you have an elementary student and want to be more active in their school experience, this could be the role for you!

Please contact  [email protected]  if you're interested in getting involved next year.

Donate Soccer Equipment for Woza Student Trip
From Owen Greene and Keegan Parson, Salmon Bay alums. Hello families! We are traveling on July 12th to  Costa Rica  with an organization called Woza Soccer, a registered 501 (c)(3) that focuses on creating positive social change through soccer.  Part of our service work will be donating lightly-used soccer equipment to Woza's partner programs in Costa Rica.  We are collecting soccer cleats (US sizes 4-8), soccer balls (size 3-5) and equipment like pumps and training vests.   We put a   bin marked "Woza donations" in Jodi's office if you have anything to drop off or we can make arrangements to pick up your gear if you send send a text or email to Owen at (206) 818-9828, or  [email protected].   Our goal is to fill at least two large duffel bags (50 pounds each) with donated soccer gear.  Thank you so much for helping us with this project!

Host Families Needed
The World Affairs Council is urgently seeking seven volunteers (families and individuals with a guest bedroom) in Seattle to provide a homestay for an exceptional youth leader from Mexico from July 20 - August 1st (only 12 nights).   These youth leaders speak English and are 15-17 years old.
