Advice from Students
We love reading the advice elementary students are sharing with incoming students in their grade level. For example, current fourth grade students wrote advice for incoming fourth grade students. So many of their messages, "eat for energy," "be kind" or "try to look at problems in a good way," are important reminders for us all. Thank you to Jenny Brooks, Elementary School Counselor, for helping students with these year end reflections.

Medication Reminder

If you did not pick up your student's medication(s) on the last day of school, please stop by the office as soon as possible to do so. Thank you.

FOSB

Friends of Salmon Bay (FOSB) is our parent teacher organization. All parents and guardians are members.

Year End Parent Celebration
It's been a great year and we can't thank all of you volunteers enough. It's amazing how much we learn about the school and the community that makes it work. We hope everyone has a great summer, has fun growing, and returns inspired for next year. Have a great idea for next year? Come join FOSB leadership for an informal gathering at the Waterwheel (7034-15th Avenue NW), Tuesday, June 26th, 7:00-9:00p. We'll be celebrating this year and brainstorming for next year.

Thanks,
Scott, Ali, and Aaron

Return of Rock for FOSB
Legend tells of a time in days of yore when Salmon Bay parents gathered to play rock 'n roll in a local watering hole.  We hope to resurrect this legendary event at such a venue next spring. The plan is to invite anyone interested in making music with friends to a mix-and-match gathering in the fall, solidify lineups and practice over the winter, then play. If you have ideas or other input, please email Ian  at   [email protected]. Important note: This event is open to any Salmon Bay parent (or friend of a Salmon Bay parent) who wants to practice and play!

Have a wonderful Summer!

Thank You
We did it!
It's been a week of laughter, tears, celebrations, promotions and goodbyes. It's been a year of growth, learning, play, creativity and exploration. There's no doubt about it, this is a special community. Listening to the speakers at 5th and 8th grade promotion, it's obvious that our students also value this community and feel the support and care that loving adults provide throughout the year.

Our database lists 440 volunteers that worked directly with students at school, in the classroom, on field trips or at camp. We know that there were other adults supporting events, assisting with fundraising and helping students at home. For the role that you have played in supporting students this year, thank you. We couldn't do it without you!

If you are leaving Salmon Bay, we wish you luck in your next adventure. If you will return next year, we wish you a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you next year.

With gratitude,
Jodi Russell
Volunteer Coordinator

Youth Climate March

The Zero hour movement was started by 16-year-old Jamie Margolin, to address climate change. The main Youth Climate March is in Washington DC, but there are many marches around the world, including one right here in Seattle on July 21st. There is also a lobby day on July 19th and an art build on July 20th. One of our main demands for the lobby day is that politicians stop taking money from fossil fuel companies.

This is a youth led movement and we are currently looking for more youth to be leads of committees and adults to be "adult mentors."  To get involved or learn more, you can go to our local website, www.zerohourseattle.org  or you can email me (Caroline Heege) at [email protected]
