Social Justice Week: April 1 - April 5

Social Justice Week begins on Monday!  Please join us at these upcoming events:

Monday, April 1: Have your student kick off the week wearing your social justice issue of choice on a shirt OR wear a solid colored shirt of any color to represent diversity. Wear your shirts all week!

Tuesday, April 2: Art Walk & Multicultural Potluck
Join us beginning at 5 pm, for our annual Art Walk and community activities in the lobby. The Multicultural Potluck will take place from 6-8 pm. Come share in our community's heritage! Enjoy food, crafts and entertainment from around the world! Salmon Bay Marimba Band, Traditional Punjabi Dancing and Martial Arts performers! Look at this flyer for more details!

Thursday, April 4: Parent Workshop - Interrupting Privilege
Salmon Bay School Auditorium from 6 - 8 pm.
This workshop asks participants to reflect deeply on their own positions of privilege - and lack thereof - as well as how one group's privilege shores up another group's inequality. We connect data about structural inequities to the everyday realities of our own lives.     The workshop begins with some grounding information about racism and systems of privilege, including important terminology. Participants will engage in activities that allow them to consider their own positions in systems of inequality and privilege and begin imagining what interrupting these systems might entail. Taught by Ralina Joseph, founding director of the Center for Communication, Difference, and Equity (CCDE) at the University of Washington. For more information, see our flyer. To learn about Ralina, visit her website. RSVP to [email protected] Space is limited! Free childcare is available, please let us know # of children and ages in your RSVP email.

Friday, April 5: Friday Sing w/ Mary Kay
Wear a shirt on the social justice issue you're passionate about or a solid colored shirt and sing along with your kid(s)!
Parent Coffee: Immediately following Friday Sing, savor a free warm cup of coffee and some treats and connect with your community of parents at our Coffee Meet and Greet in the cafeteria from 9:30-10:30 am.
