Biography Night
We hope you had a chance to visit our living museum this past Wednesday. We were amazed by the many artists, athletes, politicians, leaders, scientists and change-makers that shared their life story. Audience members learned a lot and were impressed by the performances of our 6th grade students. You should all be proud of a job well done!




Middle School Drama Production

Join us for the Salmon Bay production of The Miracle Worker, a play about Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan. Wednesday, May 30th and Thursday, May 31st at 7pm.

Director's rating: Recommended for grades 5-8. No profanity. No sexual content. No weapons. No drugs. Strong scenes of teacher physically restraining a disabled student. Some water splashing at the end. Mature conversations around the dinner table. References to battles in the Civil War and current events in 1898.
All shows are FREE!

Join us for our last PIE (Parent Information Exchange) presentation of the year on Monday, June 11th at 7:30 pm. We'll meet directly following the FOSB meeting, which begins at 6:30 pm. See the FOSB section below for more details.  


Mr. G's Summer Camp

Mr. G's Summer Sports Camp
Join Megan and Mr. G for a lot of fun and physical fitness June 25th - 29th, 9 am - noon each day. Students will participate in a variety of activities including ultimate frisbee, soccer, court sports, hip hop, unicycling and more! 
Open to all current 2nd - 4th grade students. 
$160 per participant.

Friends of Salmon Bay (FOSB) is our parent teacher organization. All parents and guardians are members. 

Final Meeting of the School Year - June 11th
Various scheduling challenges caused us to move our meeting to Monday June 11, from 6:30-7:15 in the Cafeteria/ Auditorium.
 
We'll be celebrating volunteers and giving appreciations to key leaders. Our new assistant principal, Annie Parker, will also be visiting. Come join the conversation and give us your ideas for next year!
 
Preventing Risky Behaviors Parent Talk
We'll also be holding our final PIE (Parent Information Exchange) event after the FOSB meeting. Join us from 7:30 - 8:30 pm for a conversation on Preventing Risky Behaviors presented by Lisa Davidson, SPS Prevention & Intervention Manager. Learn about current trends, vaping, over the counter drugs and how to have tough conversations with your student about them.

Are you interested in extending opportunities for students beyond our school community? FOSB is looking for ways to support educational funding equity in our region and hoping to leverage the culture and resources of the Salmon Bay community to nurture more students right here in Seattle. This committee will  be identifying ways to empower less-resourced schools and drafting a process to build and nurture our own community by taking acting to reduce inequity.  Please join us if you can!

Camp fees are based upon which camp your student attends and how many nights they stay. See below for a list of fees.  If you have not yet paid your student's camp fee or enrichment fee, please do so online here or by dropping off a check, payable to FOSB, in the Volunteer Coordinator's office.

The end of the school year brings a lot of exciting events and fun volunteer opportunities. Help us celebrate student accomplishments and our Salmon Bay community! If you can help at one of these events, please sign-up! 

8th Grade Picnic, 11:30 am, June 21st, Carkeek Park
After graduation rehearsal in the morning, our 8th grade students will be treated to a picnic lunch. Come, spend lunch with our 8th graders one last time. Sign-up here

Adams Elementary Carnival MS Volunteers Needed
June 15th from 5 - 7:30 pm at Adams Playground

New Roosevelt HS Band Students:
On June 6th, Roosevelt High School hosts a New Student Welcome at 6:30 pm.  Look for the Band table, one of many, in the Commons to get information about the Roosevelt Marching Band. Visit our website, to sign up for emails, order your band sweatshirt, and learn more about our program.  Save the date, June 16th, and follow the band, on foot and without your instrument, at our Neighborhood Parade.  More information about this and other events will be available at our table at the New Student Welcome.

Roosevelt Jazz End of Year Concerts
Please come hear the Roosevelt Jazz Ensembles perform in their year end concerts.  All concerts are in the Performing Arts Theatre at 7:00 pm and are free to the public.  Concert dates are: June 12th/Vocal Jazz, June 13th/Jazz Bands II, III and IV, and June 14th/Jazz Band I.

Seattle Cascades Frisbee Clinics
Seattle Cascades is Seattle's pro ultimate team. We combine forces with our elite women's teams to coach our clinics. Clinics are for all: beginner to advanced, all genders. Cost is $20 for the clinic, or $30 includes a disc, shorts, or shirt (one item). Scholarships are provided to all who need assistance.

Northwest Boychoir Auditions
The Northwest Boychoir is holding auditions for boys who love to sing on Saturday, June 2 or at a time convenient for you.  Classes for new members begin in September. Vocalpoint! Seattle Auditions
The Vocalpoint! Seattle Girls Prep program is holding auditions for female vocalists who will be in 7 th  and 8 th  grades in the fall on June 2nd. Girls Prep is a training program for Vocalpoint! Seattle, designed specifically for highly motivated middle school-age girls with strong music talent and aptitude. Auditions and rehearsals take place at the University Heights Center in Seattle. Parenting Chronic Illness Support Group
A supportive group for parents of children living with health challenges led by Natalie Meade, MSW. 2nd Thursday of each month, 5:30pm-6:30pm, NEST (Northeast Seattle Together), locacted at  7736 24th Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98115 Please contact (425) 296-2705 or [email protected] with any questions. Camp Erin Grief Support Camp 
Teen  Camp Erin-King County  (Grief Support Camp) is a 3-night residential camp for teens 13-18 who have experienced the death of a loved one. The camp is facilitated by professional staff from Providence Hospice of Seattle Safe Crossing. Camp is free and will be held July 13-15, 2018 at Carnation Farms in Carnation, WA. Youth Ultimate Frisbee Tournament
UpDawg is a co-ed youth hat tournament put on by the University of Washington women's ultimate frisbee teams, Element and Big Bang. As a youth hat tournament, middle school (students currently in 5th-8th grade) players of all skill and experience levels register as individuals and are placed on teams with other middle schoolers to be coached by UW players and play games against other teams in the event. Creative Coding Summer Camps

Summer Fun Arts Camp
There are still a few spots open at Summer Fun, a  unique performing and visual arts day camp for ages 7-12
Session 1: Olympic View Elementary (North Seattle)

Summer Fun focuses equally on the arts as both a process and a product. Over the course of three weeks, our campers mount a new musical while building musicianship skills, acting fundamentals, dance techniques, and creating masterpieces of art along the way. Ballard Youth Soccer

Ballard Junior Football (BJF)
Ballard Junior Football is now accepting registrations for the 2018 season (August-October) with 50% off registration fees for first year players ($125 total)!  BJF has been around since 1962 and is dedicated to creating a positive, safe and fun football and cheer experience for all of its participants (ages 6-14).  To register or for more information, visit  www.ballardjuniorfootball.org/.  

North Seattle Junior Titans Football
This Seattle youth tackle football program is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals in a structured and positive environment. Open to children between the ages of 7-14. Players are assigned to a team by their age and weight. Practices begin August 6th@ Ingraham High School, and will be held Monday through Friday, through the end of August; then 3 times a week after Labor Day weekend.

Our very own Salmon Bay Boys & Girls Club is accepting registration for summer camps and the 2018 - 2019 school year. Care is provided on site for K - 5th Grade students.  To register, send an email indicating if you are interested in summer camps, the school year, or both. Once your email is received, you'll be sent an online registration link. You can also call 206-297-7764 for more information.
