What's Cooking?
Second grade students in Kim's class made rhubarb galettes on Thursday afternoon.
The rhubarb was collected from family gardens and several volunteers helped lead the activity, making this a true community baking experience.

Bike Month Wrap Up
The training wheels are off!  A special shout out to Mr. G and all students who learned to ride their bikes for the first time this month!

As bike month draws to a close, we also want to say a big thank you to the volunteers who supported students and staffed our Friday morning Bike Month welcome stations. We hope everyone continues to ride and has some biking fun this summer!

First Grade Camp
First grade students and chaperones return today (Friday) from two fun-filled days at Camp Indianola. We love this photo of first graders in the gaga ball pit!

Congratulations to the cast and crew of 12 Angry Jurors on a set of powerful performances this week!

Music Notes
Middle School Music Concert
Please plan to join us at the Middle School Spring Concert on June 11th at 7 pm in the auditorium. It will be a night of great music and a chance to celebrate all our student musicians have accomplished this year!

Salmon Bay Sports

Panther Volleyball
It's been a fun  and successful volleyball season so far!
Our last regular season games are Saturday morning at  Whitman Middle School. JV plays at 8 am and Varsity plays Blaine at 9:30 am.

The varsity team is really hoping to win this game!  We have won 5 of 7 games this season so far. The two games we lost were close. Each time we won one of three matches and lost one of the matches by just two points. A win tomorrow would secure a spot in the playoffs. Come cheer us on!

FOSB volunteer needs for the 2019-2020 school year
We still have open leadership positions and we need family support to make this organization work. Please contact  [email protected]  if you're interested in getting involved next year.

After School Program Committee: This committee finds and organizes after-school programs for Salmon Bay students, including determining the programming for each quarter and managing registration. This is a great work-from-home opportunity that you can flex to your schedule. Two or three volunteers are needed.

At-Large/Apprentice Treasurer: FOSB's treasurers are looking for an additional volunteer to join them next year. If you have budget or finance experience, are interested in gaining some, or just want to learn how FOSB's fundraising and budget process works, consider being a part of this important team.

Co-Chair: FOSB's co-chairs serve as meeting facilitators, collaborators, and advocates for families, students, and staff. We have an experienced co-chair returning to FOSB next year in the middle school co-chair role. If you have an elementary student and want to be more active in their school experience, this could be the role for you!

Committees: FOSB has many committees that are looking for additional participation. Consider joining the Parent Information Exchange (PIE), GardenCommittee, Legislative Committee, Funding Equity Committee (looking for a chair to continue), and more. Check out www.friendsofsalmonbay.org for more information about committees or contact [email protected].

Admin Corner
Earlier this month four of us from our counseling and admin team attended training on Leading Restorative Conferences.  We really appreciate the gift of time to pull back and reflect on our current practices and think about how we develop supportive structures for our learning community.  The article, Defining Restorative , lays out a framework for restorative work.    We are committed to working to ensure that our processes are fair and work to repair the community for all when harm is done.

Our BLT has also been working with staff and community members on updating Salmon Bay's Vision Statement.  This week we reached consensus on wording based on community and staff input.  We are gathering feedback until June 15th (send to [email protected]) from staff and community members with a goal of finalizing this before the end of the school year.

We are glad to be in partnership with you to support student growth and development.
