Free Educational Parenting Event
"Overindulgence: Building Resiliency in the Face of the New Normal.'
Wed, Oct 23, 2019  6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave N.

Overindulgence is giving your child too much of anything that can delay their development. This can include money, space, time, energy, and attention. Parents overindulge children from a "good heart." Unfortunately, overindulgence doesn't help children or families because it can present unexpected risks for adult life and major discomforts in young families. In this educational event, parents will explore overindulgence and ways to teach their children how to be accountable and responsible for themselves and towards others.   More info, and free registration  here

Common Problems:

Halloween Guidelines & Celebrations
Halloween Costume Guidelines
As we approach Halloween, we want to make sure our school is a safe and welcoming place for everyone. If your child chooses to dress up in a costume, please make sure the outfit is appropriate.

All costumes should adhere to school guidelines for modesty, messages and safety. In addition, please follow these guidelines.
  • Costumes need to be non-violent in nature. Violence is inappropriate at school and other children can be frightened by blood and gore representations.
  • Weapons and toy weapons of any kind are not allowed.
  • Avoid costumes that are dressing as people from other cultures.
  • For safety reasons, please do not include masks as a part of costumes sent to school.
  • Make up, if used, should not be disguising the identity of the wearer e.g., whiskers and freckles, not face paint.
Elementary Costume Parade
Students are invited to participate in the Annual Elementary Costume Parade beginning at 2 pm on Thursday, October 31st. W e ask students to not wear costumes to school. Time will be allowed for students to change into costumes in the afternoon.

Middle School Block Party
Middle school students will celebrate with a block party on the 3rd floor from 2 - 3:10 p.m.  Students can bring costumes to change into prior to the block party. Please ensure that costumes are appropriate - see guidelines above.

Volunteers are needed to donate food and refreshments for the block party as well as chaperone activities. if you can help, please sign up here

Salmon Bay School Directory

Action Requested: School Directory
This year, we will not be printing the directory but will be sending an electronic PDF copy to all community members.  Participation in the directory is voluntary and each family can select the information they would like included (phone numbers, email, street address, etc.).  We will also include homeroom class lists and a staff directory.

To participate in the directory this year, please complete the online form found here.

Please complete only the information you would like included in the directory and omit information you do not want shared. For example, if you do not wish to have your home address included, please skip that information when filling out the form. Please double-check your information before submitting it.

You may enter information for up to 4 students on the form. If you need to add additional students, please use the notes section at the end of the form.

Safe Drop Off Procedures
Please Help Us Keep Students Safe
For student and family safety, do not drop off or pick up students on NW 65th Street or next to the bus zone on 19th AvenueWe have seen some near misses on 19th Avenue during our first month of school.

Please drop off and pick up in the loading zone on the east side of the building (18th Avenue). We ask that drivers do not drive north on 18th Avenue. Limiting the street to southbound traffic helps our crossing guard manage congestion and ensures all students are leaving and entering cars from the curb side of the street.

Elementary Enrichment Fees Due Now
During the school year, your child will participate in field trips, artist-in-residence programs, or other special class projects.  Instead of asking for payment each time one of these activities takes place, we ask parents to pay one fee in the beginning of the school year. This fee is called the Enrichment Fee (or field trip fee).   Our elementary enrichment fee is $100 per student.

Payment Options?   We have a new payment system (SchoolPay) that allows you to easily make and track payments throughout the year. You can reach the new payment portal by logging in to your student's SPS Source account. Click here  for instructions on how to access your student's Source account and the SchoolPay system. You may also pay this fee by dropping off a check (payable to Salmon Bay School) in the volunteer coordinator's office. We ask that all enrichment fees be paid by December 1st.  Scholarship funds are available.
