Seen This Week
Curriculum Night
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Virtual Curriculum Night. We loved seeing everyone, sharing plans for this year and talking about how we can partner together to support students.

Third grade families met with teachers Talia and Dave.

I spy a bunch of staff members meeting with 5th grade families in this photo... Mr. G, Megan, Nicolette, Marian and Neil.

Middle school families had a chance to share their own school memories, learn about curriculum plans, and discuss ways to support students online.

Fifth Grade Odes
After studying geographic features, fifth graders wrote odes to one of their favorite features. They learned how to add strong adjectives to create vivid imagery, how to use powerful verbs to humanize their feature (called personification) and how to add repetition for effect. So many of the odes were spectacular. We hope you enjoy these odes!

Oh River

Oh river powerful and old grinding
through mountains and hills.
But what are you trying to find
the ocean a lake
how long have you been running
and what is your purpose running far and wide
why where do you lead
I will never know why are you cutting
through everything in your way.
And flying into your final destination
why do you want to go there
what is your achievement
what is your goal
why do you keep on running you powerful old soul.
Oh river why do you try to find home.
You crave somewhere to live in
perhaps a cave deep underground
or up high in the mountains.
Oh river old and strong
please guide me to your song.

By Logan Warner

Oh,Glacier your jagged features indicate your wisdom,
For thousands of years you have sculpted our world.
Your hint of arctic and the streaks of sorrow are breathtaking
Oh, Glacier as you inch across the earth you overturn everything in your path

Oh, Glacier
you provide us with fresh water and power as you disappear,
when you are an ice sheet you blanket everything in a thick layer of ice
you add life to our world when you shape places for animals to dwell
Oh, Glacier you are magnificent

Oh, Glacier
you and your sapphire canvas sprinkled with midnight
an artist painting the sorrow and the brightness of life
Oh, Glacier you are a wonder.

From Admin

Good Weekend Salmon Bay!
We wanted to write to everyone around a few things that have come up in the past days around chat usage, involving admin, and showing up for meetings.

Involving Admin
Our admin team is happy to help and be a listening ear or have a conversation with your student if there is confusion or frustration.  It's easy for us to set-up a Teams meeting with a student, family member, and/or a group of students to listen and work to support the student or family in clarifying, explaining or problem solving.  Email any of us or call the main office to have this routed to one of us.

Chat
Parents in general, please do not use the classroom chat as a way to communicate with teachers.  This can be read by all other students, and in a few cases has put teachers and students in a difficult space.

Showing up for Meetings
Students should show up to meetings with school appropriate attire, electronic images, and school appropriate décor/objects in view when cameras are on.   Objects that can be seen as threatening or dangerous (whether toys or real) should not be on camera during classes for everyone's felt safety.

Thank you for your partnership,

Neil, Darren and Suro
