Third Grade Trip To Oxbow Farms
Students in third grade visited Oxbow Farms today. While at this working farm, students had a chance to taste different parts of a plant (roots, leaves, fruit, flowers, seeds). They helped at the farm by harvesting fruits and vegetables along with collecting seeds.
We'd like to give a special shout out to our volunteer drivers/chaperones who helped make this visit possible!

Counselor's Corner

The Hassle of Miscommunication
Do you find that your child is not listening to everything you say most of the time?  Communication is a tough piece of parenting that doesn't always get talked about.  How you say something is just as important as what you say.  No matter the age, the information provided here: https://childmind.org/article/how-to-give-kids-effective-instructions/ will help you get your message across to your child and be heard.

As always, if you have any questions or need more information please reach out to us.

Small Group Opportunity
The Salmon Bay counseling team will be offering a small mental health group for 7th and 8th grade students using a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model. This group aims to cultivate a safe space for students to share their experiences while also learning skills that will help them to:
  • Manage stress
  • Regulate emotions
  • Build meaningful relationships with others
  • Engage in self-care practices
The group will meet once a week (location and time TBD), beginning at the end of October and running for approximately 8 weeks. Interested individuals can sign up, refer students, or gather more information by reaching out to Rob Bright at [email protected]

From Admin

Dear Salmon Bay Families,

Congratulations on finishing the first month of school!  We had a great September, and are starting to settle into some solid routines and structures in our classes.  As we began October this week, our 3rd graders ventured off to Oxbow Farms to enjoy the fall weather and festivities.  On Monday, our middle schoolers will be presented with some exciting extracurricular fall class offerings through Coyote Central.  Coyote Central is one of our WEP (Winter Enrichment Program) community partners.

If you haven't already, mark your calendars for Oct. 24th for our Salmon Bay 20 Year Celebration. See the invitation printed above for additional details. We would love to see you there!

Now that the colder weather is setting in, please remind your children to wear jackets outside and help them remember to bring jackets inside or home.  Our Lost and Found is already growing, so take a look if you are missing items! You can find Lost and Found in the first floor band hallway.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Annie, Neil, and Darren

Safe Drop Off Procedures
Please Help Us Keep Students Safe
For student and family safety, do not drop off or pick up students on NW 65th Street or next to the bus zone on 19th AvenueWe have seen some near misses on 19th Avenue during our first month of school.

Please drop off and pick up in the loading zone on the east side of the building (18th Avenue). We ask that drivers do not drive north on 18th Avenue. Limiting the street to southbound traffic helps our crossing guard manage congestion and ensures all students are leaving and entering cars from the curb side of the street.
Morning Math Assistance
Math Help Available
This year, we will again be offering drop-in morning math assistance 3 days a week before school:  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 - 8:30 am in room 214 (the large common room just above the front lobby).

Brittaney Judd will be available in room 214 for homework assistance, working on a concept, or having a math conversation with your kiddo.  This year Brittaney is teaching Geometry as well as supporting a number of Middle School Math classes.  If there is something specific you would like her to work on with your child, or you want to check in with her, please email her at [email protected].

Elementary Enrichment Fees Due Now
During the school year, your child will participate in field trips, artist-in-residence programs, or other special class projects.  Instead of asking for payment each time one of these activities takes place, we ask parents to pay one fee in the beginning of the school year. This fee is called the Enrichment Fee (or field trip fee).   Our elementary enrichment fee is $100 per student.

Payment Options?   We have a new payment system (SchoolPay) that allows you to easily make and track payments throughout the year. You can reach the new payment portal by logging in to your student's SPS Source account. Click here  for instructions on how to access your student's Source account and the SchoolPay system. You may also pay this fee by dropping off a check (payable to Salmon Bay School) in the volunteer coordinator's office. We ask that all enrichment fees be paid by December 1st.  Scholarship funds are available.
