We hope you are finding Book A Day valuable! As I mentioned in the letter announcing Book A Day, I strongly recommend you preview the materials so you can make decisions about what to experience with your family and how to discuss the sensitive topics that some of the books raise.

Take care,
Teacher Ben

From Admin

Hello Salmon Bay Families,

When we have school at school, you may know that we conduct monthly safety drills: fire evacuation, lock down, shelter-in-place, earthquake. Although students won't be together on campus, we feel it's important that students still learn and practice how to keep themselves and others safe. Along with 17 million others on the planet, we'd like to invite and encourage your family to participate in the upcoming Great Shake Out.

The actual drill will take about 1 minute but, depending on the age and experience level of your child, the conversation may take longer. In short, students (and families) will learn how to "Drop, Cover and Hold On." Salmon Bay teachers will teach students this important safety procedure on Wednesday, October 14th. We ask that you talk with your student(s) and plan to actively participate next Thursday, October 15th at 10:15 am.  Remember, you know your child best. This may be overwhelming for some, so proceed with relative caution.
If you'd like to understand more about the procedure and how to identify potential hazards in and around your home, you can find resources for your family here: https://www.earthquakecountry.org/step5/

In advance, thanks for keeping our kids and community safe.

In partnership,

Darren, Neil and Suro
