Salt hill Pub Celebrates Twenty Years with a Commemorative Pale Ale

Created by Sebago Brewing …and of Course Live Music

Lebanon, NH – Salt hill Pub, voted the Upper Valley’s favorite eatery and music-friendly watering hole, marks twenty years in mid-June.

It’s well known that opening a restaurant is a challenging road, with something like a 60% failure rate. But in the spring of 2003 brothers Joe and Josh Tuohy were also contending with a “cursed corner” at 2 West Park Street in Lebanon.

There was a short-lived pool hall, and a coffee house in the space before the Tuohy brothers, both raised in Sunapee, began renovations for their flagship pub. Townspeople would pop in to say hello, and half of them would raise an eyebrow and ask “you know this corner is cursed, right?”

Now two decades later, having withstood an economic recession and a well-publicized pandemic, brothers Joe, Josh and Matt Tuohy still own and operate Salt hill Pub on the Mall in Lebanon, as well as sister pubs in Newport, and Newbury, NH.

“You can’t say they didn’t warn us,” Josh Tuohy remarked. “I guess you could say we’ve been making it up as we go for twenty years.”

To celebrate two decades of ‘Honest Food, Perfect Pints, and Living Music,” the brothers will be featuring the original line-up of panini sandwiches from 2003, as well as well-known local band The Conniption Fits, on Saturday, June 17th. As for perfect pints? The Tuohy brothers once again traveled to Gorham, Maine to create a special 20th Anniversary brew at Sebago Brewing Company…called simply, Salt hill Pale Ale.

Through a chance meeting, the Tuohy's met Sebago co-founders Kai Adams, Brad Monarch and Tim Haines a dozen years ago at a food show in Florida. Since then, the teams have bonded over great beer, and a shared experience in running multi-unit restaurants.

Sebago’s flagship Frye’s Leap IPA is wildly popular at Salt hill Pub, so when the idea of brewing a commemorative 20th anniversary beer came up, it was a no-brainer. The two companies continue to promote one another, and when the opportunity arose to collaborate, they couldn’t resist.

“A group of us visited Sebago Brewing on the day ShPA was brewed at their flagship brewery, and you could not find a more impressive facility. Plus, the beer and lunch were amazing,” said Matt Tuohy.

Post-pandemic, relationships and collaboration remain important: “it’s been fun sharing our successes and challenges over the years, and our bond is strong as ever. We’re proud of our friends at Salt hill Pub for their decades of durability, and we can’t wait to hoist a Salt hill Pale Ale to celebrate,” remarked Kai Adams, Sebago co-founder.

The Salt hill Pub restaurants in Lebanon, Newport and Newbury, NH will host a ‘simul-tap’ of the ShPA on Thursday, June 15th. This limited edition ale will be available at all locations through July, while supplies last.
