2020 GlobalMindED
The Future of Work is Diverse, Inclusive, Just and Equitable
GlobalMindED closes the equity gap by creating a capable, diverse talent pipeline through connections to role models, mentors, internships for low-income students, returning adults, First Gen to college and inclusive leaders who teach them, work with them and hire them.

Stéphane
Lessard is a modern man who stands for opportunity for all people, recognizing that the most effective governments, businesses, educational institutions and foundations and funders are diverse and inclusive. Stephane has been one of GlobalMindED’s launch partners and committed sponsors as we’ve grown the last several years. In this summer of 2020 in the U.S. especially, leaders like
Stéphane
are role models for the rest of us, defining in actions instead of words what true inclusive, generous leadership looks like and how we can live up to,that standard and deliver it in our own way.

Stéphane
, you are one of the most high impact, global inclusive leaders. What influenced your success and makes you so committed to women, people of color and underrepresented populations?
Fundamentally, I believe in the power of collaboration, that we, all of us, are stronger when we work together. This is true between individuals, organizations, and also countries. Canada and the United States share so much in terms of history and culture, and our economies are so integrated that the well-being of our communities has become inter-dependent. We have also worked, and fought, side by side to defend our common values and freedoms. Recognizing this, it has been my privilege to work with our great team to look for new opportunities to partner with great organizations in Colorado and beyond, such as GlobalMindED, to advance common objectives. One of these has been supporting greater opportunities for women and girls, and other under-represented groups. This is a key priority of the Government of Canada, and one that I personally believe in very strongly. I am keenly aware that, in my country, not everyone has enjoyed the same opportunities that I have been blessed with. I have also learned that we need different voices and perspectives at the table to successfully deal with complex problems and ensure that the solutions we put forward will work for our diverse population. All this has driven me to look for opportunities to help level the playing field.
What have you learned as Canadian Consulate General to Colorado over the last several years?
There are too many lessons to count. I will mention two. I am from center-East Canada, and before I arrived in Denver I had little knowledge of the Western part of North America. I had been to several cities in Western Canada and in California, but only for short visits. During four years living and working in Denver, but also travelling to neighboring Montana, Wyoming, Kansas and Utah, I was able to discover the immense beauty of Colorado and the U.S. Rocky Mountain West, with so many beautiful scenic drives, beautiful natural sites and unique communities. Equally important, I was able to experience how Western folks live and do business, with serious attention to results but always with a welcoming attitude, an easy informality and a deep sense that, of success is achieved, one should give back and contribute to society. Secondly, while in the region I grasped more fully how deeply integrated Canada and the U.S. are in every way on a North-South axis, arguably much more than we are integrated East-West in each of our own countries. A person in Denver can visit Calgary for example and feel right at home, and vice-versa. That is why it is so easy to find common ground between us.
What will you take from your time in the U.S. to your new leadership role in Ottawa?
Two things: first, a much deeper understanding of what makes the Canada-United States partnership so special, from our deeply integrated economies, our collaboration to keeping our border secure, our unique partnership at NORAD for the defense of North America, and our commitment to shared values. And second, indelible memories of visiting the region and meeting amazing people, whose generosity, friendship and kindness will never be forgotten.
How can GlobalMindED support your goals and carry forth your good work in the US as well as work with Canada globally from here on out?
I commend GlobalMindED for your impressive leadership in advocating for equal opportunities for all in the educational system and the workforce. Canada very much agrees with this mission, and I am very proud of our excellent partnership over the last four years. As GlobalMindED and Canada continue to exercise leadership in this crucial endeavor, I am confident that there will be many opportunities to collaborate going forward, and that our Consulate General in Denver will be available to facilitate opportunities.
As a generous, inclusive leader, what is your highest hope for the world right now?
That we increasingly realize that, deep down, all of us are the same. We all seek a meaningful life, we all want to be helpful and live in harmony, and we all want he best for our children, no matter where we live, the color of our skin, whom we love or other circumstances. Appreciating our common humanity, we will more easily look for ways to work together to solve the problems before us, and create a more just and sustainable world for our children. Here is the

THE FLYOVER NATION
Energy's Role in a Troubled Heartland
By J.C. Whorton
A unique and timely discussion of the challenging issues facing the country’s troubled Heartland.
Since the beginning of westward expansion into the Heartland’s vast regions, natural resource development has played a historic role in shaping its communities. Today, domestic oil and gas development offers one of the strongest prospects for the Heartland’s present and future prosperity as well as the nation’s re-emergence as a dominant player in the global energy economy.
The U.S. is now the world’s largest producer of crude oil and natural gas, two circumstances that are universally disrupting international geopolitical order. The earth has a finite supply of natural resources and a rapidly growing and over consuming population.
As America positions itself for a very uncertain and constantly evolving global marketplace, will the Heartland become America’s “great connector” or “great divide”?

Responding to Crisis
The 30-Day Justice Plan
As the reset of America is underway, understanding the role you can play in a system of change can be difficult, but we encourage you to listen, learn and be active. To start, instead of, say, a juice cleanse, feed your brain and move yourself with this practical plan over the next month.
Here's our guide
of what to read, watch, listen to and do in order to be part of the solution.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)
Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

GlobalMindED and the SDG Impact Fund are delighted to announce
GlobalMindED's Donor Advised Fund
.
2020 is the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations and the 25th Anniversary of the Beijing Women's Declaration and Action Platform. Many from around the world are thinking of 2020 as the gateway to our most vital decade for delivering equity, the Sustainable Development Goals, and a world where all can thrive. Our key time for these outcomes is 2020-2030.
GlobalMindED DAF and the SDG Impact Fund are a powerful combined force for good as the 2019 year comes to a close and we reflect on the gratitude and the commitments we make to the causes we care most about. The DAF offers immense power and flexibility for giving prior to the year's end as you plant seeds of generous intention for 2020 and the decade ahead.
When you contribute to GlobalMindED, you support First Gen students. We have served more than 400 students by connecting them to role models, mentors, internships and jobs. Your generous support will allow us to take our work 10x and reach these talented students at scale who lack the resources and support we provide. Your support also helps teachers who can't afford the conference fees, faculty at colleges which are under resourced and students who persist at those universities despite food insecurity and/or housing insecurity.
