John A. Nelson, 84, of Saginaw, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020. He graduated from Kalamazoo College, and later in life from Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration.
After undergraduate he joined the financial staff at General Motors, where he was gainfully employed for thirty-eight years. During his time at GM he
generously supported Samaritas. His advocacy for Samaritas began as early as 1993.
"John was a wonderful ambassador and supporter for Samaritas and will be deeply missed," said DeeDee McVety,
Director, Major and Planned Gifts, East Region for Samaritas.
"We were always impressed his kind and caring demeanor."
John had great business insights and strategic recommendations to help the agency run as smoothly as possible. He cared deeply about the people Samaritas serves and was always willing to share his time to help.
"We could always count on him for encouragement and great ideas," said McVety. "He was a master at asking questions that could help you make the right decision."
John will be missed.
