News from co-op - Fall 2024

Same Page Parenting

Are all of your parenting partners on the same page?

  • One parent attends Co-op classes and tries to share information.
  • One parent reads books and searches the internet for reliable sources.
  • One parent only has time for quick TikTok videos.
  • One grandparent listens but might know better.

In an ideal world everyone ‘raising’ your child would seek out trusted sources and share information with the whole parenting team who would immediately understand and eagerly implement.

The real world can feel like a no-win situation. The now 'Parenting Expert’ is excited to share because parent education feels so eye-opening and helpful but, when trying to explain, it loses its impact. Even information offered eagerly and neutrally can feel like criticism at worst, how-to at best. Instead of enjoying parenting and trusting your abilities, it becomes a minefield of expectations, resentment and I-told-you-so.

What if there was a place where parent education could be offered (professionally and neutrally) directly to the team members who cannot fully commit to a year of Co-op? What if it happens in a classroom where tips and ideas could be modeled in action? Where ideas or concerns could be discussed? What if a partner could observe a variety of children in a structured play environment to see their child with peers (to see that their child is the cutest/funniest/smartest/kindest/fill in the blank)?

The new Saturday Multi-Age Class is for YOU–dad, mom, grandma, papa, nanny… whichever parenting partner or team member would enjoy and benefit from a scheduled, special, fun time with their child AND get parenting support AND take a step toward Same Page Parenting.

Debbie and John partnered with filmmaker Filiz Efe McKinney of Brave Sprout Productions to create a film that raises up the voices of multiple families with diverse identities, talking about their hopes, fears, strengths, challenges, and questions as they figure out: What kind of world do we want to create with our children? There will be opportunities for questions and discussion with Debbie after the viewing. Watch the trailer here.
