Come to Our Parents Association Meeting This Tuesday
Our Band Parents Association meeting is this Tuesday, October 15, at 6:30 pm in the band room. All are welcome! We would love to hear from you about any topics you would like to discuss; just send an email to BPA President Gavin Dimundo at, and we can add your issue to the agenda.

We will try our best to keep the meeting to an hour, and expect to be finished by 7:30 pm.
Instructor Mariam Kaddoura invites any parents whose students might be interested in our new Winter Drumline program to come find out more about it at the BPA meeting. Winter Drumline is a great way to build your percussion skills and get P.E. credit at the same time — no experience necessary! Read more here.
Sign Up for the Concert Cafe!
Join the coolest group in town — sign up to bring a dish or serve (or both!) at our Fall Concert Cafe this October 29. Starting at 5:30 pm, we'll have food on offer for all the families to purchase and enjoy before the concert starts at 6:30 pm. It's a great group of volunteers, and a fun way to get involved with the Samohi Bands. Sign up here!
Tickets are on sale now through Brown Paper Tickets for our fall concert, which will feature all five bands in Barnum Hall on Tuesday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m. Reserve your favorite seats today — $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Contact if you need wheelchair spaces or complimentary seating.

Our concert cafe will open at 5:30 so that families can gather and eat before the show.

USHERS WANTED! Please email VP of Concert Bands Yolanda Lewis at if you can help out. The usher slot would be from about 5:45 - 7:30 pm on the night of the concert.
Honor Band Applications
Samohi Band does not endorse any particular honor group, nor can we financially support student participation in these fee-based programs.

Rehearsal This Wednesday
In part because we lost an important rehearsal day last Friday due to air quality, we will have rehearsal this Wednesday, October 16, after PSAT/SAT testing. See the schedule at the bottom of this section.
Marching Band Showcase / Senior Night / 8th Grade Night This Friday
Join us for our only full field show at SMC — or on the west side — on this special night. Cheer on the Samohi Vikings varsity football team and watch our marching band and color guard come out at halftime in full uniform to present “The Bard!” 

The Samohi Class of 2019 will receive their senior medals right after the halftime show. And 8th graders from Lincoln, JAMS, and SMASH will have an informational meeting about the marching band program, then join us in the bleachers to watch the show. It’s a great night of football and fun that combines both pep songs and a field show performance. Invite friends and family, you won’t want to miss it!

First Comp This Saturday!
The Viking Marching Band kicks off its competition season on October 19 at the 33rd Annual Baldwin Park High School Field Tournament.

Call time this Saturday is 10 am at Samohi. Please drop off your student with a lunch, snacks, royal-blue practice shirt, Dinkles, and black socks. The students will rehearse, eat lunch, and finally load the buses at 2 pm to head to Baldwin Park. They will receive dinner at the comp. You will get another email this week with a more detailed packing list and schedule.
The Viking Marching Band will perform in the evening with the other 5A bands, and are not expected back at Samohi until around 11 pm. All families are welcome to come out on their own to watch them on the field — look for "The Bard" t-shirts and other Samohi Band swag in the stands! The entry fee is $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Baldwin Park High School is located at 3900 Puente Ave, Baldwin Park, CA 91706.

Please note that no matter how late you stay at the comp, your student will not return home with you. All students return on the bus to Samohi and help unload instruments and props; you can pick them up from there.

We Need a Few More Super Shoppers

The remaining fan t-shirt pickup and sale times are as follows:
Tuesday 10/15, 6:30 - 8 pm during the band parent meeting
Thursday 10/17, 7:30 - 8:30 pm during rehearsal. Look for the gray Volvo SUV parked by the Michigan gate with the back hatch up.
Friday 10/18, 5:15 - 7 pm next to the JAMS lawn where the kids are dropped off before the football game. Look for the gray Volvo SUV with the back hatch up.
Saturday 10/19, 9:30-10 am at the Michigan gate at drop-off for the first comp. Look for the gray Volvo SUV with the back hatch up.
