TUXEDO PICKUPS MONDAY IN THE CHOIR ROOM!
NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 21, 2019
CONCERT BAND
Invite your friends and family to our Fall Concert this October 29 and BUY YOUR TICKETS BEFORE THE EVENT at Brown Paper Tickets!
Avoid the long lines and the hassle on concert night by reserving your favorite seats today. The Fall Concert will feature all five bands in Barnum Hall on Tuesday, October 29, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Contact [email protected] if you need wheelchair spaces or complimentary seating.
Starting at 5:30 pm, we'll have food on offer for all the families to purchase and enjoy before the concert starts at 6:30 pm. Sign up here to bring a dish or serve food! We will also need ushers to help people find their assigned seats once they're in Barnum Hall — you can also sign up to do that on our signup sheet. Come help out! Volunteering is a great way to meet other parents and get involved with the Samohi Bands.
Tuxedo Pickup in the Choir Room TOMORROW — Monday, October 21
Elite Tuxedo rental pickups will take place tomorrow in the Samohi Choir room during 6th period and after school until 4 pm. After that time, you can pick up your tux from the band room. Please try it on ASAP and contact Elite Tuxedo if you have any problems with the fit.

Dresses Are in the Band Room – Still Waiting on Many Orders
Unfortunately, we have only received about a dozen concert dresses so far. Emails have been sent to all students who ordered them. If you have any questions about your dress order, please email [email protected].
Bands at the Broad Needs Co-Chairs!
This amazing fundraiser on Tuesday, February 11, features our top two bands in concert at the beautiful Eli and Edith Broad Theater and raises much-needed funds for tour scholarships.
Featuring a silent auction, cupcakes, and adult beverages, this sparkling event needs co-chairs to lead and oversee the effort to organize wine and ticket sales, cupcake signups, and the silent auction. Help us build a winning team to make Bands at the Broad a success for our musicians!

Please contact [email protected] if you can help in any way. We are looking for a chair or co-chairs to start, but if there is another place you'd like to pitch in, please let us know!

Video credit: Ted Bonnitt, Samohi Band parent
CONGRATULATIONS to the Viking Marching Band for capturing first place in Division 5A, first place in 5A auxiliary (color guard), AND overall sweepstakes in Music Effect at Saturday's comp at Baldwin Park High School. What a great way to start our first season as a 5A band!

Next Stop: Simi Valley
This Saturday's comp will be the Simi Valley 51st Annual Band Spectacular at Simi Valley High School. At this point, the Viking Marching Band is set to perform at 6:45 pm and the awards are at 7:15, so it should be an earlier night for our students (and parents)! See the Simi Valley performance schedule here.
Once again, you will drop off your student at Samohi on Saturday morning with a lunch, snacks, royal-blue practice shirt, Dinkles and black socks, and warm clothes to wear for the awards. Check your inbox for a full itinerary and packing list, coming soon.
