CONCERT BAND
Honor Band Applications
The Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association ( SCSBOA) has opened the application process for the 2020 All-Southern California High School Honor Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra. Applications are due November 1. The ensembles will perform January 17-19, 2020 in Garden Grove, CA.

Auditions for the 2020 All-State Honor Ensembles are due to Mr. McKeown by Wednesday, November 25, 2019. When he picks the top 20 students to submit, they will be given a code to upload their music and scales through the CBDA online system, which will close at 11:59 pm on December 1, 2018. The All-State ensembles will perform February 21-23, 2020, in Fresno, CA.

Please note: Honor groups are not part of the band curriculum. Samohi Band does not endorse any particular group, nor do they have the funds to support student participation in these fee-based programs.

Wind Symphony Sonoma/SF Tour
The Samohi Wind Symphony (Period 2) will once again be traveling up to San Francisco and Sonoma to perform in the Sonoma Invitational Festival this March 12-15, 2020. Any interested Wind Ensemble (Period 4) members are also invited to join!

Monday, Sept. 23: Rehearsal @ 7 am
Tuesday, Sept. 24: Rehearsal @ 7 am
Wednesday, Sept. 25: Rehearsal @ 7 am
Thursday, Sept. 26: Rehearsals @ 7 am & 5-8 pm
Friday, Sept. 27:  No AM rehearsal.  Samohi Varsity Football Game @ SMC; big instruments load after school; 5:45 pm call time on JAMS lawn
Saturday Percussion Rehearsals
This Saturday, September 28, Mariam Kaddoura will be holding special rehearsals for marching band percussion students. Front ensemble performers should meet in the band room for a rehearsal from 12-4 pm, and battery will meet from 4-8 pm. There will also be a Saturday rehearsal on October 12 from 10 am - 2 pm for both groups together. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Kaddoura. 

Flex Time Rehearsals Start This Week
Mr. McKeown is scheduling marching band rehearsals during flex time starting this week. Wind instruments will meet on Tuesday and percussion and color guard will meet on Wednesday. Anyone who needs to use that time for another academic class is excused from rehearsal, but must contact Mr. McKeown first at komckeown@smmusd.org.

No Forms, No Travel
The following students STILL have not turned in their REQUIRED Off-Campus Permission and Emergency Card forms! If your/your student's name is on this list, please fill out these forms and sign them ASAP, and either scan them or send a photo of each completed and signed page to samohiband@gmail.com, and/or bring a physical copy to the band room.

JAZZ BAND
Catalina Concert Survey
This year we will be going to Westlake High School Jazz Festival all day on Saturday, May 9. We are looking at options for our spring concert at Catalina. One date that was proposed to us is Sunday, May 10 (Mother's Day), at brunch time. We understand that there could be family conflicts with this date and have created this survey to help us plan accordingly.
