COME TO THE FIRST BPA MEETING SEPT. 10!
NEWS FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2019
ALL BANDS
First Band Parents Meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10
Save the date! The first meeting for all parents of students in concert, marching, and/or jazz bands is set for Tuesday, September 10, at 6:30 pm in t he band room.

Join us to meet the directors and learn about the year to come, including parent communications and volunteering, fundraising, concerts, spring musical pit orchestra, and more!
All-Bands Registration OVERDUE
Online registration using our Samohi Bands Online Registration Form is mandatory for all students. (Families that registered for marching band do NOT need to complete the form again for concert or jazz band.)

The registration suggests a direct donation of $250 per concert band student, but any amount you can give is welcome! Your generous contribution helps cover the cost of paying sectional instructors, buying and maintaining instruments, and more.

You can register without contributing any money at all, but please consider giving. Direct donations are our most effective and important way of fundraising for the bands, and we would love to see 100% participation.
CONCERT BANDS
2018-19 Band Concerts
Below are the tentative dates for the 2019-20 concert band performances. All concerts are in Barnum Hall and begin at 7 pm. Traditionally, we have food available for purchase at the Concert Café starting at 6 pm and during intermission.

Tuesday, Oct. 29: Fall Concert (All Concert Bands)
Friday, Jan. 17: Winter Concert (Periods 1, 3, 5 & Marching Band)
TBD February: Bands at the Broad Benefit Concert (Periods 2 & 4)
TBD Late March: Spring Concert (All Concert Bands)
Wednesday, May 27: Pops Concert (All Concert Bands)

[There will also be a percussion ensemble recital scheduled in late April/ early May 2020. Watch for developing news!]

Please remember that all concert band performances are mandatory for the students and count as part of their grade. The best way you can support your musician is by attending!

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors; they are available for purchase a few weeks in advance at samohiband.com/tickets. They can also be purchased at the door on the night of the show.
Concert attire: For concerts, all students are required to wear either a black tuxedo (or black suit/black bowtie) OR an approved concert black dress. Read more about concert attire here.

Concert Café
This year we lost our amazing Concert Café coordinator, Adam Chamorro, because his son graduated! If you would be interested in filling his shoes, or teaming up with another parent or parents to do so, please email us at samohiband@gmail.com.

This chair position entails setting up a Signup Genius to get food contributions and volunteers, deciding on a theme, and helping set up and break down the café's tents and tables on the night of the concert.

Percussion
Sticks and mallets are due by Friday, September 6. Assistance and loaner mallets are available; please speak to Mariam Kaddoura.
VIKING MARCHING BAND
Marching Band Is Off to a Great Start!
Marching band season is underway, and the students are working hard on their field show, "The Bard," which they will bring to their first comp on October 19. Read more about comps here.
