Hello, Viking Marching Band (and Other Band) Members!
[Sorry, we haven't gotten the marching band email addresses separated from the other band email addresses yet...]
Thank you for your patience while we navigate our schedule for the Samohi Viking Marching Band. We have received word that the administration has confirmed our decision to move our A-period class to the following days/times:
Mondays: 3:10-4:30 p.m.
Wednesdays: 9:15-9:50 a.m. and 3:10-4:30 p.m.
We recognize that this decision will cause some challenges for a few students who cannot participate in a full capacity after school. We will make options available to those students by offering office hours, flex time, and asynchronous options. Any band student that wishes to do so can also switch to color guard, which will continue meeting during the 7:30 a.m. time slot.
The overall support of our students for this time change was so strong that I knew it was worth advocating for. Many students shared the challenges they faced in participating in an activity that involves producing sounds in the morning in their current learning environment, so I am happy we were able to make this adjustment. Once again, I appreciate the patience of all the families as we worked towards the time change, and I hope it will help create happier and more productive Viking Marching Band members.
It's been a joy to see all the students and watch them navigate our new landscape. I hope we can find some joy during this time as we look towards a better future for our young adults. They have been patient with all the tech challenges and I know we will have a great semester...we are ALL in this together. :)
