Ben Barton
Professor Ben Barton joined Gillian Hadfield, Nora and David Freeman Engstrom, and Erin Levine for the closing panel of the Stanford Law School CodeX Center’s 2021 FutureLaw Conference. The panel covered "The Pioneering Work of Prof. Deborah Rhode, the Future of Regulation of the Legal Profession, and its Impact on Legal Innovation."
Doug Blaze
Dean Doug Blaze conducted a CLE for state lawyers on “Leadership in the Law.” Dean Blaze was part of a panel including Danielle Barnes, former Commissioner of TN DHS, and Jonathan Skrmetti, Chief Deputy Attorney General.
Sherley Cruz
On April 11, 2021, Professor Sherley Cruz was a co-presenter at the 2021 Faculty Women of Color Conference. The Workshop,Triple Threat: New Women of Color in the Academy, explored the challenges and benefits of being part of a new generation of women in the academy.
Lucy Jewel
On April 7, 2020, Professor Lucy Jewel presented a CLE seminar as part of the Knoxville Bar Association’s annual Expo. Professor Jewel discussed how lawyers can use storytelling approaches to make their legal writing more engaging and persuasive.
On April 5, 2020, Professor Jewel also published a short article for the TBA's Appellate Practice Section. Professor Jewel explained various Tennessee court rules governing fonts in appellate briefs as well as concepts such as monospacing, proportional spacing, sans serif, and serif typefaces.
Alex Long
Professor Alex Long's recent article, "Using the IIED Tort to Address Discrimination and Retaliation in the Workplace" (forthcoming in the University of Illinois Law Review), was recently reviewed on JOTWELL by Professor Christopher Robinette of Widener University Law School.
Professor Long was also recently quoted in an article in The Ledger, entitled "No Vaccine, No Job? Not Yet."
Glenn Reynolds
Professor Glenn Reynolds has authored a chapter on American politics and class warfare for a book entitled "After Trump," to be published by Rowman & Littlfield Press. He also recently appeared on Fox News Primetime, talking about corporate power and American democracy.
Professor Glenn Reynolds appeared 4/26 on a Federalist Society Practice Group panel with famed First Amendment lawyer Floyd Abrams and Supreme Court litigator Erik Jaffe, entitled "Revisiting New York Times v. Sullivan."
Since having COVID over Christmas, Professor Glenn Reynolds has been donating convalescent plasma, used to treat people with serious cases because of the antibodies it contains. He looks forward to it no longer being needed.
Maurice Stucke
Professor Maurice Stucke was quoted in a piece by The American Prospect entitled "The Big Tech of Health Care."
Professor Stucke was also quoted in an "Ask the Experts" column by Foreign Affairs entitled "Does Big Tech Hurt U.S. National Security?"
Melanie Wilson
On April 9, during Loyola University Chicago Law Journal’s Symposium on The Criminal Justice System in Review: Accountability, Reform, & Policy — Dean Emeritus Melanie Wilson served as a panelist with other criminal procedure experts from across the country to discuss “Wrongful Convictions, Pleas, and Sentencing.”
On April 20, Dean Emeritus Melanie Wilson served as a panelist for the Association of American Law Schools Faculty Focus Series. The April program, directed to early-career law professors, addressed “Navigating Faculty Politics.” Veryl Miles, former dean of The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, and Dean Theodore Ruger of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School were also panelists. Darby Dickerson, Immediate Past President of the AALS, and Vincent Rougeau, AALS President, co-hosted the program.
Dean Wilson was also invited by the Illinois Law Review to write an essay for the journal’s on-line symposium, featuring highlights and challenges of President Biden’s first 100 days in office. Wilson’s essay, Biden’s Prosecutors, will appear in the on-line journal in May. It focuses on President Biden’s nominations and appointments of DOJ leaders and anticipated U.S. attorney appointments.
