Welcome to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Newsletter
I want to take this moment to express my appreciation to every single person who has come up to me or our deputies to say "thank you." During these trying times, the community's support means a lot to all of us here at the Sheriff's Department. Your safety is always our top priority.
With the end of summer almost here, I ask all of you to do the responsible thing by not drinking and driving this Labor Day weekend. If you do plan on drinking, have a designated driver ready to go or call a ride-sharing service. Please be safe and don't put other people's lives in danger.
I hope you enjoy reading this month's newsletter. Thanks again for your support.

The Sheriff's Department is stepping up efforts to stop impaired drivers from hitting the road leading up to Labor Day.
Watch for increased DUI patrols by deputies across the county beginning on Friday, August 19th through Labor Day on Monday, September 5th.
"There is no excuse for impaired driving," said Sheriff Bill Gore. "The Sheriff's Department has a zero tolerance policy. You will go to jail if our deputies catch you drinking and driving."
If you do drink, be sure to have a designated driver ready or call a taxi or ride-sharing service. Here are some sober rider options: * MTS (Bus and Trolley) * NCTD (Bus and Coaster/Sprinter)

The caller makes it as convincing and frightening as possible. You are told there is a warrant for your arrest for missed jury duty, unpaid debt or traffic ticket. To avoid arrest, you have send money or buy a prepaid debit card.
IT IS A SCAM.
These scams play on your fears. They even manipulate the caller ID to make it look like it's coming from a Sheriff's Station, Substation, facilities or court offices.
As a reminder, if you get a call from someone claiming to be a deputy asking for money,
HANG UP. No employee of the Sheriff's Department will ever ask for money over the phone. If you really are in trouble with the law. You will know it. We will be knocking on your door. Warrants cannot be resolved over the phone, you have to go to court.
People with outstanding warrants are encouraged to turn themselves in Monday through Friday during business hours at any one of the Sheriff's Court Facilities. For more information or to check if you have an outstanding warrant, visit
www.sdsheriff.net/courts

Suicide Prevention Week
Every day, family, friends and co-workers struggle with emotional pain. For some, it's difficult to talk about the pain, thoughts of suicide or the need for help.
When an emergency call involves a mental health situation, a licensed mental health clinician responds with a Sheriff's Deputy. It's called Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT). They help deputies calm the situation and offer mental health services.
If you or someone you care about is in crisis, help is always available through the County Crisis Hotline:
Trained and experienced counselors are available 24 hours per day to help you . You don't have to suffer in silence. Make a free call.
In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
