What the Sheriff's Office Is Doing to Protect Against COVID-19
I hope you and your family, friends and loved ones are staying safe and healthy during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

I am inspired and encouraged by the commitment and effort that we are making in San Francisco and across California to lessen our exposure, flatten the curve and save lives.

The Sheriff's Office stood up our COVID-19 Department Operations Center (DOC) on Monday, March 16. At midnight, March 17, Mayor London Breed's shelter-in place-order went into effect. We entered a new normal that no one could have even imagined the previous day.

The Sheriff's Office is currently operating under a COVID-19 Response and Action Plan, which is specific to minimizing the risk of exposure in the community and jails. To date, there are no known cases of coronavirus among the incarcerated population in our jails.

When I took office on January 8, 2020, I had many plans for the department. I have even more now. New ideas reveal themselves during emergencies.
The video below shows highlights from our April 8 morning muster for staff who are out in the community. There are no half-measures here. Everyone is being asked to make sacrifices and take emergency actions that will keep us safe. The Sheriff's Office is committed to keeping everyone safe.

I want to especially recognize our City partners and co-workers as we provide support to those in need and keep San Francisco strong.

We thank you for your contributions. Through our collective actions, we will beat back the coronavirus and resume our daily routines.

Stay safe, be well, and take care.

Sheriff Releases Video PSA to Help Domestic Violence Victims
As we shelter in place to protect ourselves and our loved ones from exposure to COVID-19, another public health crisis is intensifying.

Did you know that in 2019, one in three women and one in four men experienced some form of physical violence from their partner?

You shouldn’t be afraid to stay home.

Unfortunately, we’re seeing in San Francisco and across the Bay Area that home isolation during this COVID-19 emergency is giving more power to the abuser.

Please watch the video below to learn three resources that DV victims may contact for help.

SFSO Superstars Fight COVID-19 with Acts of Kindness and Support
SFSO staff stars have shone brightly during this emergency. Here are just a few of the highlights:

  • Kindness during COVID: Cadet A. Arrescurrenaga, her parents, sister & mom’s best friend collectively spent more than 100 hours over Easter weekend sewing 300 cloth masks for incarcerated people in San Francisco jails. They will continue to sew until all people in custody have a mask.

  • Deputy E. Wong saved the day as the SFSO Command Staff needed to meet – but also maintain physical distance. Deputy Wong set up our first and subsequent video conferences. It's so convenient we may never go back to the old ways.

  • Radio telephone operators in our Department Operations Center play a key role in keeping the information flowing between the branches and supporting our troops in the field. It is a demanding and stressful job but both Deputies A. Aguerre and C. Moore are up to the challenge. They work long hours keeping us on track to respond to this public health emergency.

  • Religious services coordinator Yolanda Robinson ministers to the people in our jails. With the COVID-19 outbreak, she and her fellow faith providers were unable to go into the facilities. Robinson created an inspirational packet, which includes prayers, meditations, and inspiring quotes to reassure and bring comfort to the people in our custody.

These folks are among our many SFSO superstars! Kudos to everyone for pitching in during these challenging times.
