SFSO Programs Support Re-entry for Justice-involved
Dear Friends,

Our in- and out-of-custody programs distinguish the Sheriff's Office from other law enforcement agencies.

Today's video introduces you to Will Cooper, SFSO's new manager of rehabilitation services. Will worked with us in the early 2000s and brings his experience, knowledge and commitment to serving justice-involved people and as he will tell you, helps them secure a "warm hand-off" when they are released from jail.

A warm hand-off includes a robust reentry plan and front-loaded post-release services. Studies show that formerly incarcerated people are at greater risk of re-offending within the first 90 days of release. The Sheriff's Discharge Planning desk helps people with long-term re-entry planning and short-term release solutions from taxi vouchers to emergency housing and hygiene kits to meet basic health care needs.

The very reason I ran for office was to invigorate the Sheriff's Office that I grew up in -- to continue our guiding philosophies and maintain and build our collaborations with community organizations that represent the people we serve.

We will continue to engage with the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and community-based organizations in the coming months to address community, equity, and public safety concerns in the services that we provide with our partners.

Please email my office at [email protected] if you have issues you would like to address. Thank you.
VIDEO & PHOTOS: SFSO Provides Mutual Aid to No. California Fires
Northern California is having a rough year. We are six months into a global pandemic and now we are besieged by wildfires.

When multiple lightning complex fires broke out, our staff answered the call for mutual aid. As of today, we have 24 Sheriff's Deputies protecting communities and patrolling evacuated areas. Our leadership is providing public updates as well.

VIDEO: Welcome New Deputy Sheriffs
There are few things more exciting and gratifying than welcoming new deputies into the San Francisco Sheriff's Office.

It's fun for all of us who remember when we committed ourselves to serve and protect the public. This past week, we pinned 16 new deputies. We wish them well as they begin their careers as peace officers.
