Going the Extra Mile
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!
There is something special about the beginning of a new school year. It is a time filled with possibility, renewed energy, and the excitement of watching students step into new classrooms, explore new interests, and discover opportunities they may not have imagined for themselves.
This year, our theme, “Going the Extra Mile,” is a reflection of what I see happening across SGVROP. It is not about simply doing more. It is about being intentional about creating meaningful opportunities for students and ensuring that what they learn connects to the world beyond the classroom.
Across our partner districts, we are seeing that commitment come to life.
From the new Athletic Training Room and Sports Medicine Facility at Baldwin Park High School, to the revitalized Culinary Arts Kitchen and innovative Spyder Lab at Charter Oak High School, our students are learning in environments designed to mirror the industries they are preparing to enter. At Walnut and Glendora High Schools, expanded and upgraded Patient Care classrooms are providing students with authentic healthcare experiences and opportunities to build confidence in their skills.
We are also seeing students take a more active role in promoting CTE. Our Student Ambassador Program now includes representatives from all six member districts, giving students an opportunity to share their experiences, encourage their peers, and help others discover the many pathways available through SGVROP.
As our CTSO clubs begin another year of activities, students will have opportunities to compete, collaborate, connect with industry professionals, and develop the leadership skills that will serve them well long after they leave our classrooms.
These accomplishments are possible because of the people behind them. I want to express my sincere appreciation to our teachers, advisors, administrators, support staff, and district and school-site teams who worked throughout the summer and into the new school year to make these opportunities possible.
As we look ahead, I am excited about what this year will bring. Every new classroom, every hands-on experience, every student leadership opportunity, and every industry connection represents another step toward preparing our students not just for their next class, but for their next chapter.
