San Gabriel, Calif. After an extensive and rigorous search, the City of San Gabriel is pleased to announce the selection of Edward Elizalde to serve as the city’s new Police Chief, effective September 5, 2023.

With 28 years of law enforcement experience and a proven record of community engagement, personnel development and strategic budget management, Elizalde joins the San Gabriel Police Department as a seasoned professional. Elizalde began as a public safety dispatcher in the City of Alhambra and rose through the ranks to become its assistant police chief, overseeing patrol teams, personnel training, investigations, dispatch and the police department’s budget and capital improvement projects. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership, is a graduate of Claremont Graduate University’s Peter F. Druker School of Management and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Los Angeles.

"We are confident that Elizalde's experience and vision align with our city's values, and he will play a pivotal role in enhancing public safety while strengthening the bond between our police department and the community,” said San Gabriel City Manager Mark Lazzaretto.

“Public safety is of utmost importance to our community,” said San Gabriel Mayor John R. Harrington. “Elizalde’s track record of effective leadership and dedication to service will undoubtedly benefit all our residents and continue to grow the San Gabriel Police Department to continue to be one of the best public safety agencies in the San Gabriel Valley.”

"I am honored to have been selected as the Police Chief for the City of San Gabriel,” said Elizalde. “I am committed to building upon the strong foundation put in place by my predecessors and working collaboratively with our officers, community members and local partners to ensure that San Gabriel remains a safe and welcoming city for everyone.”
