The local angler was passionate about fishing. He had the best rod and reel, and the perfect bait. He had been waiting for nearly two months to drop a line in the ponds at Sycamore Island.
Finally, it was opening day for the season.
He packed his tackle box and a lunch, then roused his son from bed. It was time! Except it was 3 am and the gate wouldn't be open until 6 am.
When the Trust's Project Manager Jake arrived early at Sycamore Island on opening day, he was surprised to see a car waiting at the gate. He approached the driver and received an excellent response.
"I was just so excited and I wanted to be the first one here."
The local angler's son had no comment. He was asleep in the front seat.
Sycamore Island will be open this Friday, November 9 through Monday, November 12, from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm. The 2018 season of park operations at Sycamore Island will end on Monday, November 12. Sycamore Island will reopen on Friday, February 1, 2019.
