At the beginning of this month, TxDOT Aviation hosted their annual Texas Aviation Conference bringing together over 500 airport managers, consultants, and aviation experts within the Texas general aviation airports system.
We are excited to share with you that during the banquet, San Marcos Regional Airport received the award for 2022 Reliever Airport of the Year and State Senator Zaffirini presented a Proclamation acknowledging the airport's vital role in the Central Texas region.
Through hard work, we have made it our mission to provide the best airport experience for the flying community and we are honored that Texas Aviation Partners and the City of San Marcos were recognized for our dedication. More information can be found in the San Marcos Daily Record article below.
As spring approaches, we think it's a great idea to plan a spring cleaning week for all of our hangar customers. We plan to place two 40 yard roll off containers on the airport so that our tenants have the ability to do some clean-up in their hangars. Our goal is to have them delivered some time in April, so keep a lookout for an email letting you know when and where.
On March 24, at our next Airport Advisory Board meeting, we will be welcoming our new board members. We hope that everyone can make the meeting not only to welcome our new members but to thank our departing board members for their dedicated service over the last few years.
Happy Flying!

It has come to our attention that aircraft have been using the vehicle lane to taxi.
The vehicle lane is not for taxiing aircraft. It is for vehicle traffic only.
By taxiing along the vehicle lane, you run the risk of colliding with vehicles. Additionally, some areas along the vehicle lane contain drainage grates that may cause damage to aircraft.
Please use other parts of the ramp to taxi. We have placed cones in some areas as reminder.
|
|
Please note, in the coming months we will be changing the gate code.
Further information will also be sent out directly to all tenants. If you have any questions, please contact the office at (512) 216-6042.

HYI FEATURED BUSINESS:
BERRY AVIATION
|
|
If you’ve spent much time around San Marcos Regional Airport (HYI), then you have no-doubt run across the name Berry Aviation on more than one occasion. While most people equate Berry Aviation to the blue-roofed FBO building along Airport Drive, there is much more to the company than initially meets the eye. Berry Aviation was founded in 1983 and originally operated from Austin until 1993 when the company relocated its headquarters to San Marcos. Since that time, Berry Aviation has continually developed an impressive array of innovative and responsive aviation operations and support services for its customers.
The most obvious public-facing part of Berry Aviation’s business is the FBO, which is located on the western side of the HYI ramp. From the Berry FBO, everyone from GA pilots and military units to actual movie stars and rock stars have been welcomed to San Marcos by the Berry team. The FBO provides all of the standard aviation support functions that pilots require including fuel, towing, and hangar storage in addition to providing flight planning facilities, customer and pilot lounges, and flight merchandise sales.
|
|
In addition to their FBO operations, Berry Aviation runs an impressive 31,400 square foot Maintenance/Component Repair and Overhaul facility which was opened in December 2019. Here, the company’s skilled mechanics and maintenance support staff provide ongoing care and upgrades to the company’s diverse aircraft fleet and its 24/7 flight operations. The maintenance team also provides commercial component repair services for wheels, brakes, anti-icing equipment, and select avionics, to name but a few, as well as comprehensive procurement and supply chain solutions.
Berry Aviation maintains a very active flying schedule but only a portion of that activity is typically visible from the San Marcos Regional Airport. The company uses the airport as their aircraft training base and, along with Akron-Canton, OH, as a hub for their white-hot on-demand cargo (ODC) business. Dispatched from a dedicated facility in Denton, TX, the ODC division provides its customers with highly-responsive, rapid cargo transportation options throughout North America and the Caribbean. Their ODC crews routinely transport a diverse range of materials including automobile parts, medical equipment, rescue animals, and even highly-critical donor transplant organs.
|
|
Berry Aviation is widely recognized as a leader in government services and over the years has operated a number of contracts across the globe from the Pacific Islands and Africa to the Middle East and Afghanistan. Respected for their ability to provide reliable and exceptionally responsive service in some of the world’s most austere environments, Berry Aviation has set itself apart by delivering innovative solutions in passenger movement, medical and casualty evacuation, night vision goggle operations, and aerial delivery of cargo and personnel. In February 2021, the company added to their robust portfolio of aviation services by expanding into the Autonomous and Unmanned Aviation field when they welcomed into the company an Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) research facility based in Stillwater, OK. At this UAS facility, company engineers conduct research and development, production, integrations work, and training on a wide range of unmanned platforms that can be used for both commercial and defense purposes.
For nearly 30 years, Berry Aviation has been an active member of the San Marcos Regional Airport community and during that time has grown into a true aviation powerhouse with global impact. The company prides itself on applying niche aviation solutions in innovative ways that help customers successfully accomplish their various missions. We are proud to have Berry Aviation in San Marcos and as a valuable member of the San Marcos Regional Airport community.

CIVIL AIR PATROL TRAINS FOR EMERGENCIES
|
|
San Marcos Daily Record
On Saturday, February 19, cadets and senior members from Civil Air Patrol (CAP) squadrons met for
Cadets and senior members from Civil Air Patrol (CAP) squadrons recently met for a large-scale training event at the San Marcos Regional Airport.
More than 60 cadets and seniors from squadrons across south-central Texas flew 19 air sorties and three ground sorties, and practiced search and rescue techniques (SAREX) such as searching for simulated downed aircraft and evaluating simulated flood and hurricane damage on Feb. 19.
Group V of the Texas Wing, Civil Air Patrol, is made up of nine squadrons from San Marcos, Austin, San Antonio, Randolph Air Force Base, Georgetown, Temple and Kerrville and all squadrons participated in the SAREX. Five CAP airplanes participated in the air sorties.
The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) donated meeting space for an air command center in its historic hangar at the San Marcos Airport to launch the air sorties, which are specific operations involving a single resource on a mission in an aircraft. The CAP building for the San Marcos squadron served as command and communications center for the ground teams. Training in search techniques, air-to-ground communications, and safety were provided.
“It is important that we simulate real-world events such as hurricanes and flooding, in addition to downed aircraft in our training,” Group V Commander Lt. Col. Don Jones said of the event. “These are missions that CAP has been called on to perform in the past. For this event, we mixed up crews from different squadrons to make sure all our teams can work together.”
Acting as a Total Force partner and official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, Civil Air Patrol helps First Air Force rapidly respond to non-military threats domestically in a Defense Support of Civil Authorities capacity to save lives, relieve suffering, prevent property damage and provide humanitarian assistance.
Established in 1941, Civil Air Patrol is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and as such is a member of its Total Force. In its auxiliary role, CAP operates a fleet of 555 single-engine aircraft and 2,250 small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) and performs about 90% of all search and rescue operations within the contiguous United States as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.
