Happy September!
Fall is coming. Can you feel it?! Me neither.
Our favorite airport maintenance fella, Aaron, just came back from vacation in Michigan and he was bragging about the rain and temperatures in the 60s. I've been told this type of rhetoric is not grounds for termination, even in Texas. (But seriously, we're glad to have him back suffering alongside us!)
Despite the heat and drought, activity at the airport continues at a pace unlike anything we've seen. With increased traffic, comes increased movement of both automobiles and aircraft; often in the same areas.
At our last Airport Advisory Board meeting, Jim mentioned starting a group comprised of airport users who could meet to collaborate on safety issues and how to best address them.
Staying ahead of these issues and tackling growing pains will take a coordinated effort. Because we believe this is such an important endeavor, we want to host open-house type meetings on a regular basis where everyone is welcome to participate. We envision these meetings to be informal but focused.
A special newsletter will be sent out as soon as we have the first day and time chosen. We're also work-shopping names and what we've thrown on the board thus far is equal parts awful and hilarious so if you have a suggestion, send it our way!
In the meantime, as a reminder, Airport Rules and Regulations state "Aircraft will be taxied at safe and prudent speed..." I suppose the definition of "safe and prudent" could be debated but we have seen some pilots taxi at near V2 speeds! Taxiing at a slower speed is safer and this is simply a reminder of just that.
Happy flying,
Cassidy Berenato
