TRAFFIC OPERATIONS

We've been pleased to share the increasing traffic counts each month in 2017 and now the FAA has confirmed what we already suspected. According to the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower Aircraft Operations Counts report, San Marcos Regional was the fastest growing general aviation airport in Texas in terms of takeoffs and landings with a 36.2% increase between 2016 and 2017!

If January is any indication, we may see the same trend for 2018. HYI enjoyed a 37% increase between January 2017 to 2018.

Keep in mind these numbers do not include flights that occur outside of the tower's operational hours.
TAXIWAY DELTA TEMPORARY CLOSURE

The FAA has flagged Taxiway Delta as a "hot spot" due to its location (adjacent to two intersecting runways) and the fact that it does not conform to the current FAA standards. With the increase in traffic over the past 12 months, we've received several reports of concerns from local pilots.

To get an idea of how the closing of Taxiway Delta would impact operations, it will be temporarily taken out of service. We anticipate the temporarily closure to begin in March and last approximately one month. A special newsletter will be sent out prior to the closure.
AIRPORT MAINTENANCE

Taxiway Repairs: We are happy to announce that the recent significant repairs to taxiway Alpha & Charlie are complete. You will notice less debris and rocks as we have increased our sweeping to twice a week.  Safety is our number one priority and we are constantly monitoring the area for wear and tear.  Please call (512) 216-6042 and let us know if you see anything that needs to be addressed.

Weather StationAs of December we have an FAA approved backup weather system.  The purpose of this system is to help provide live weather to the flying community when the FAA AWOS is out of service.

NEW WEBSITE TO BE LAUNCHED

As the first phase of our airport marketing and branding effort for 2018, we're putting the final touches on a new, standalone airport website. Those who attended our December Airport Advisory Board meeting were able to get a sneak peek of the design!

We anticipate the website will go live sometime in March and we look forward to hearing your feedback. Our goal is to provide a user-friendly site that will, in addition to our monthly newsletters, keep our tenants and users up-to-date on current events. Additionally, information regarding development and leasing will be readily available to prospective clients interested in the greater San Marcos Regional Airport.
 THAT'S ALL BROTHER FIRST FLIGHT

On January 31, That's All Brother flew again after  nearly 10 years.   After a far-reaching fundraising campaign, supporters made it possible for the CAF to acquire and begin an unprecedented restoration with the goal to authentically restore  That's All, Brother  to its original D-Day configuration.

It's estimated that more than 22,000 hours of labor have gone into this restoration project. Much of the work up until this point has been carried out by Basler Turbo Conversions in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Their skilled employees have unparalleled knowledge of C-47-type aircraft, and have been a major resource, accelerating the early stages of the restoration considerably.

Once initial flight operations are complete, That's All, Brother will head to its new home in San Marcos, Texas. There it will be assigned to the CAF Central Texas Wing, where volunteers will be responsible for the care and maintenance of the aircraft.

The Central Texas Wing will offer aircraft tours, attend aviation events and conduct educational programs leading up to the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. Those interested in learning more and supporting the efforts to keep this aircraft flying and the goal for it to participate in the 75th Anniversary of D-Day events in Normandy, June 2019, can visit www.ThatsAllBrother.org.

INTERESTED IN SERVING YOUR AIRPORT?

In addition to the five City Council appointed Airport Advisory Board (AAB) members, there are five non-voting stakeholders to represent the interests of airport users, commercial tenants, and the San Marcos and Hays/Caldwell County communities.

Stakeholders attend all quarterly AAB meetings at the Airport Management offices and while these stakeholders do not have formal voting power, their voices, ideas, and opinions are invaluable in guiding TAP and the Board in promoting San Marcos Regional Airport.

If you'd like to be considered as a stakeholder, please send an email to Stacey Batch expressing your interest.
