Happy Spring!

We're excited to tell you that on March 5,   Go Wheels Up (GWU) received their Special Event Permit from the City of San Marcos for the upcoming airshow and concert! As you can imagine, there are still many small details to be finalized but the promoter, Vast Events, made an incredible amount of progress in a short period of time in order to get this approval.

In the newsletter below, you'll find a map of the areas of the airport that will be closed during the event. Additionally, there is a helpful FAQ put together by the GWU team (you can see it on our website here as well).

If you're a tenant of the airport, you'll get free access to the event. If you're not, or if you also want some free tickets for your friends and family, please consider   volunteering. Volunteers will receive free admission plus three additional tickets, close-in parking, discount food tickets, and a t-shirt.

In other news, we're hosting an airport-wide meeting on Tuesday, April 9 at 2:00pm at the airport management office.

We're rapidly approaching the more exciting part of creating the Airport Master Plan - development alternatives. Before the consultant, Garver, submits their alternatives for feedback, we want to hear directly from all our customers.

What capital projects are most important and how do you think they should be prioritized? Where do you see the future of San Marcos Regional Airport?

We want to hear directly from you. We'll use this time to brainstorm as a group and come up with  suggestions that Garver can utilize as they begin this next phase.

We hope to see you all there!

Happy Flying,
Cassidy Berenato

AIRPORT PROJECTS

Airport re-striping: This project is ongoing.  Below is a breakdown of the different areas:
  • Ramp vehicle lane on the ramp - complete
  • Runway 17/35 - expected to be completed by March 29
  • Runway 8/26 will began March 28 and will hopefully be completed by the beginning of the following week.
  • Areas to be completed in the next two weeks (weather dependent):
    • Lead-in lines for: Runway 13, taxiways Echo and Foxtrot, City-owned t-hangars
    • Runway 35 run-up box on the ramp
Repairs to T-hangars and T-shelters: Weather has delayed this project, but it is still a work in progress.  We expect it to be completed in the next few weeks.

Runway and taxiway sign panel replacement: All runway and taxiway signs have been upgraded with new illuminated sign panels, except for Taxiway Echo. Those upgraded panels have been ordered and will be installed soon.

AIRPORT-WIDE MEETING

Thank you to everyone who could attend our Airport Advisory Board meeting on March 11. We always appreciate a good turnout!

We wanted to invite each of you to a special airport-wide meeting to be hosted at our office on Tuesday, April 9 at 2:00pm to discuss future airport maintenance and planning.

Typically, as part of the Master Plan, the consultant would provide multiple "alternatives" to airport layouts and associated future projects. At that point, these alternatives would be narrowed down to two or three and then presented at an open house.

Before the consultant, Garver, begins work on these layouts, we'd like to have an informal meeting with as many of our users and tenants as possible to discuss what the known airport issues are (looking at you, deteriorating ramp), budget constraints, grant timing, and future airport expansion.

We want to hear directly from our users. We'll use this time to brainstorm as a group and come up with some suggestions that Garver can utilize as they begin this next phase.

We hope that all of you can attend. If you have any questions in the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out.
