Happy Thanksgiving!

This month we spent a good amount of time on our Airport Master Plan studying airfield layout alternatives, ramp modifications, and potential development options for 1,400 acres of airport property.

At our Open House on November 18, we had a great turnout where over 35 interested airport users, pilots, and members of the community provided excellent feedback on future layout considerations. If anyone that wasn't able to attend would like some information, please let us know. Our consultant, Garver, will also be presenting an abbreviated version at our Airport Advisory Board meeting on December 17.

The prospect of FM 110 becoming a reality in the near future, coupled with the completion of the Master Plan, bode well for our Airport's future. We will be relying heavily on our entire airport community to help make HYI safe, financially sound, and a positive environment for all.

A belated thank you to our Veterans who have honorably served our Country and please say a prayer for the family of Robb Van Eman who went to join his heavenly father in peaceful skies doing what he loved on November 20, 2019.

I am grateful for your continued support of HYI and hope each of you has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
Jim Wimberly

EAA TO HOST YOUNG EAGLES FLIGHTS

On Saturday, December 7, the San Marcos Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will host a Young Eagles event for local kids interested in aviation at the San Marcos Regional Airport. Slots are available for up to 20 students to participate in the event which includes a 30-minute discovery flight in an aircraft flown by an experienced EAA member. Students can also practice their flying skills on two state-of-the art Redbird flight simulators provided by Redbird Flight Simulations of Austin. Sign up here.

The event will take place at the Commemorative Air Force hangar which has a museum and aircraft on display. Students will have an opportunity to tour the museum and see the historic aircraft including the famous "That's All Brother", the Douglas C-47 which lead the Normandy invasion on D-Day in 1944.

Launched in 1992, the Young Eagles program has dedicated more than 25 years to giving youth ages 8-17 their first free ride in an airplane. It's the only program of its kind, with the sole mission to introduce and inspire kids in the world of aviation.

Today, more than 2 million young people have enjoyed a free introductory flight through the Young Eagles program. These flights are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.

The San Marcos EAA Chapter, Chapter 958, meets every third Saturday at the San Marcos Regional Airport. For more information about the chapter and the upcoming Young Eagles event, email Young Eagles Coordinators Matt Naylor  or  Dave Falleur  or visit the EAA website:   www.eaa.org/eaa .
