Dear San Marino Unified Staff, Students, Families, and Community,

In light of recent news developments, district-wide decisions have been made in order to ensure the health and safety of our students and employees. These decisions were made in consultation with the appropriate governmental agencies. Below, please find our updated policies and procedures with respect to important areas of concern. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available. 

School Visitors and Volunteers

• No volunteers/visitors, or unauthorized guests are allowed past the front office on any campus until further notice. 

Student Sports and Spectators

• Until otherwise notified, no spectators will be allowed to attend school sporting events.
• Students will not be allowed to participate in any competition with spectators present at the venue. 
• This topic will regularly be revisited based on CIF and league guidance.

Community Gatherings

• All events through April 13 are postponed indefinitely.
• Events include: Assemblies, Open House, Concerts, Performances, outside events hosted on our campuses, and other similarly situated gatherings

Field trips and Student Travel

• All field trips and school-related travel through April 13 are postponed indefinitely.

Food Services

• Due to the growing concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus, (COVID-19) the Food Service Department will discontinue the traditional servicing style of salad bars at all school sites.
• Effective Friday, March 13, 2020, fruits and vegetables offered to students in the cafeterias will be individually portioned.
• No outside food, including meals prepared at home or by restaurants or eateries, will be allowed to be delivered to our campuses for student consumption. Any meals prepared at home must be brought with the student at the start of the day and may not be shared with others. 
• Student safety is our number one concern and exercising this abundance of caution will assure students that it is safe to consume the fresh fruits and vegetables offered daily. 
• These policies will be revised based on guidance from the California Department of Education.

When will school closures happen?

• Governor Gavin Newson advised today in a press conference that school attendance is still an essential activity. Should we decide to close our schools, it will be an informed decision made in conjunction with guidance from the LA County Department of Public Health and/or other local, state, and national authorities.
• As we prepare for the possibility of school closures, we are directly sending a brief survey to our families regarding student access to internet-connected devices for use at home. 

We will continue to keep you updated as we receive new information, take new actions, and revisit the areas listed above. Sincere thanks to you for being patient as we all work together daily to ensure we are taking all preventative actions we can to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.
