"Summertime is always the best of what might be."

- Charles Bowden

Would you be able to give back this summer? Want to earn volunteer hours, gain experience, or look to do something meaningful? Volunteers are a treasured talent! Volunteers come from diverse walks of life and backgrounds with a range of interests and skills. If you have a particular area of expertise, it may be what we need. From the board room to the build site, we strive to find the right fit for you and make every volunteer experience meaningful.

According to Independent Sector, in partnership with Do Good Institute, the estimated national value of a volunteer hour is $31.80. It adds up! Our 2025 goal is 31,500 volunteer hours, which is a savings of over $1 million. Our volunteers are a key factor in our success, spanning nearly four decades, and are critical assets to our entire community.

Join us for our Monthly Volunteer Session held on the third Thursday of each month at 5 pm to discover the various volunteer opportunities that Habitat has to offer.

Whether you enjoy the outdoors and hands-on construction or working in the ReStore, we can custom-fit an experience that you will find both rewarding and fun!

We are aware that Moore County offers an abundance of volunteer opportunities. We strive to make your time at Sandhills Habitat a rewarding and beneficial experience. We value, respect, support, encourage, and enjoy exemplary relationships with volunteers.

The ReStore is looking for enthusiastic summer volunteers! With many of our regulars taking well-deserved vacations, we need extra hands to keep things running smoothly. Women Build Sells Out Forest Creek Golf Tournament

Congratulations to these ladies!

Almost a month before tee time, our Women Build has sold out the Fourth Annual Golf Tournament at Forest Creek. We are thrilled to see so many new players and welcome back repeat supporters. The tournament kicks off the sponsorship of the 2026 Women Build a Home for Vearion and her two daughters. We will break ground on this house in early September in Addor's Bright Meadows community.

If you weren't able to play this year, there's still a chance to support the Women Build and score big! Pinehurst Resorts had donated a foursome at the famed Pinehurst #8. We will only be selling 50 tickets at $50 each. Also, it is an excellent gift for visiting guests and family.

You do not need to be present to win!

We will pull the winning ticket during the golf awards lunch on July 14th. Online tickets must be sold by July 11th. The package includes cart fees and green fees.

Expire July14th, 2026

BIG NEWS from the ReStore

New Hours

We’re switching things up at Habitat ReStore! Our hours are changing — but don’t worry, the deals, treasures, and impact you love are here to stay. Explore our new schedule and continue building a better world… one bargain at a time.

Although we greatly appreciate everyone who wants to donate to the ReStores, we are unable to accept certain items due to safety concerns or low turnover. When we receive items that we cannot sell, we incur high dumpster fees, which reduces the money available to support our mission.

Did you know?

You can schedule a free pickup for larger items online!

PROGRESS ON THE APOSTLES BUILD 2025

Watching the progress on the construction of the Apostles Build house in the Addor community is a privilege and a shared joy with future homeowner, Shanelle Taylor.

In April, we saw the walls being raised. The volunteers that day were pastors from many local churches. First, they carried the wooden structures up the hill to the house and placed them where they would stand. Then there was the effort to raise them and get them in just the right place. Once up the wall had to be held in place until they could be secured. Much heavy lifting!

In May, when Pinehurst United Methodist Church sent volunteers to assist with building, the roof on Shanelle’s future home was the primary focus. Despite the rain at night, workers trudged through mud and water, soaking their shoes, socks, and pant hems to complete as much as they could. Staying hydrated was emphasized because, as the morning wore on with the sun shining down, heat had to be acknowledged as a present and powerful force. Roseanne Roberts and Chip Burroughs didn’t miss a beat, showing up all three days. Staying in the middle of the action, they also instructed and assisted the rest of us who weren’t so building savvy to be productive helpers. It was fascinating to learn that the metal pieces I spent the morning hammering into place would make the home’s roof hurricane-proof.

Shanelle was on site with her uncle, still smiling and eager for home ownership. A wonderful blue, the house has taken shape. The dedication of the home is still several months away, but our readers are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and share in the joy of this house being formed for Shanelle. And while you're in the neighborhood, take a moment to admire the other homes that are already occupied or still under construction. There will eventually be 12 homes built in Bright Meadows of Addor.

As Americans continue to live longer and healthier lives, our primary mission is to provide support and resources to older adults and individuals with disabilities, helping them live safely, with dignity, and make informed choices in their homes for as long as possible. Today, we share the inspiring journey of Sarah D. Crosby, a 75-year-old matriarch whose unwavering faith and determination have preserved her family's legacy.

Sarah's home was built in Hamlet in the 1940s as a modest one-bedroom home. In 1965 her father expanded the home to three bedrooms for the growing family. After her parents passed, Sarah inherited the house and raised six children. Nine years ago, she sought to replace the aging roof, unfortunately finding a trusted contractor would prove to be a challenge.

Through Sandhills Habitat for Humanity's Aging in Place Repair program, Sarah found a team that not only understood her needs but also shared her commitment to quality and integrity. The new roof, installed by partnering subcontractors who care, stands as a symbol of our community's dedication to ensuring that seniors like Sarah can age comfortably and safely in their own homes.

Habitat can help homeowners who are 62 and older, have a documented physical disability, are single parents, or have a family of five or more who struggle to maintain the integrity of their homes. Through the Aging in Place Program, individuals can reclaim their homes with pride and dignity, allowing them to age in place. Open Session starts on August 1st. Habitat will be accepting applications from non-Habitat homeowners for exterior repairs.

Thank you to our partners at St. Joseph of the Pines for your years of support and all the ways you engage! We were treated to a wonderful breakfast and lunch when we kicked off the Apostles Build with Pastors Day. They sent a crew out to build last week, and in August, they are hosting a gourmet dinner for their residents to support #sandhillshabitat. We look forward to building with you in the future!

Thank you to all the volunteers on the construction site, in the ReStore, in the office, or serving on a committee. We are well on track to meet our 2025 goal! Your volunteer hours make a profound difference in the Sandhills. You help raise the money needed to purchase building materials and some of the swing hammers used to build the homes.

Invite your friends, neighbors, or co-workers to join you. Seeing is believing, and we have the best volunteer experiences in the Sandhills!

It's a fun opportunity to meet like-minded friends who support affordable housing. July 18th at 5:00 pm, you may learn about Habitat's volunteer opportunities. Whether you enjoy the outdoors and hands-on construction or working in the ReStore, we can custom-fit an experience that you will find rewarding and fun! We know volunteer opportunities are abundant in Moore County. We strive to make your time a rewarding and beneficial experience at Sandhills Habitat.

No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to help and a heart for service. Join us today and see how you can make a difference. Together, we can build more than houses—we can build hope, stability, and brighter futures.
