Business Build off to a great start!
CEOs and Business Leaders kick off annual build!

No one could complain about the weather this year (not true in our first 2 years of CEO days) as they swung hammers in a lovely 65 degree morning. Thank you to the business leaders who joined us Friday, October 25 to raise the walls on our Business Build home. Returning faces and brand new supporters came out to build and learn about Habitat. Kirk Lynch, Habitat board member, led a small but mighty committee that helped to reach new sponsors this year. Joining Kirk on the business recruitment committee were Jeff Hutchins ( Penick Village ), Tim Maples ( First Bank ) and Jana Volitis ( Moore County Chamber of Commerce ).
Their goal was to increase awareness of affordable housing and help make it possible to build a home for a local hardworking family earnings between 30-60% of our county’s median income. The family will purchase the home with a zero-interest equivalent mortgage that is guaranteed affordable for their household thanks to our generous community.
Special thanks to our builders on CEO day: Diane Wilson (Towering Pines) , Kirk Lynch (Sandhills Community College) , Leslie Laws (Pinehurst Surgical Clinic) , Pat Corso ( Partners in Progress ), Chris Hunt ( BB&T ), Lori West ( Pure Barre and Clean Juice ), Brandon Enfinger and Nichole Cox ( Pinehurst Medical Clinic ), Kevin Saunders ( First Bank ), Linda Parsons and Jana Volitis ( Moore County Chamber of Commerce ), Hailey Sumner ( Pink of the Pines , Melanie Green ( M.E. Greenhouse LLC ) Mike Murphy ( The Murphy Insurance) , Don Johnson and Dean King ( Pinnacle Construction ), Kirstin Ostby ( Carolina Barbell ). Wow!!

We build for the next 3-4 months, so please bring your work team out to the site any Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Contact Rosemary Weber at 295-1934 or [email protected] to claim your date.
Volunteer in the Spotlight

Congratulations to Serena Smith, one of newest hardcore volunteers to reach 250 hours on our construction site.

Serena, originally from New Jersey, decided to retire to the Sandhills several years ago. She is an avid golfer. When a friend moved south and invited her to come and visit her in Pinehurst, Serena was sold on the area and all that it offered especially our amazing golf courses and friendly community. Serena has a family back in New Jersey that she visits, but says there is no place as peaceful and rewarding as the Sandhills of North Carolina.

Serena is a hardworking, reliable volunteer who enjoys working with Habitat on the construction site every week. She is always thrilled to meet and work side by side with other hardcore volunteers and homeowners in progress. Serena comes to all the home dedications to personally provide support and good wishes to Habitat families. Serena is a petite gal, but let me tell you, she is fierce on the construction site and does an amazing job no matter what the task.

Our hardcore volunteers are dedicated to the mission of building safe, decent and affordable homes in our community. We cannot say thank you enough to Serena and all our hardcore volunteers who give their time and energy in our ReStore and on our construction site.

More good news for Habitat and Dobbins Heights.

CSX has provided a generous $1,000 community service grant to support the ongoing Dobbins Heights Neighborhood Revitalization program. Their grant ensures that Habitat and the Dobbins Heights Neighborhood Revitalization volunteers can continue to perform vital home preservation and home repair projects for elderly and disabled Dobbins Heights homeowners. Many thanks to CSX Corporate Headquarters and CSX Hamlet Yard for their support.

We need volunteers!
If you love this event and want to get involved behind the scene we would love to have you! Our Gala Committee meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 3:30 at Habitat. Our next meeting is this Thursday, November 14th.
The ReStore had a tremendous turnout at our ReStore volunteer luncheon hosted in the Moore County ReStore. We had a great lunch from Olive Garden, had VIP shopping event for our volunteers and their guests only. We actually gained 3-4 new ReStore volunteers for our ReStores and construction. We could not fund 4 homes without our volunteers.
A Huge Thank You!!!!

Speaking of ReStore, volunteers and staff have been busy maximizing space and creating a great, new shopping experience! Come visit us to see some great new purchased items, like rugs, bamboo pillows and sheets at a great price.
Be sure to follow the new ReStore Facebook page

31 Years of building safe, affordale housing in the Sandhills
USDA Rural Development
Success story with USDA Rural Development grants. Our Richmond county repairs are continuing to add more new roofs and windows in Hamlet, Dobbins Heights and Ellerbe thanks to USDA Rural Development grant.

We have completed 9 homes so far this fiscal year with another 12 projected over the next 6 months. All projects and homeowners for the last quarter were personally inspected and reviewed by our local USDA representative and approved with no discrepancies.
