Sanford Burnham Prebys receives landmark gift from T. Denny Sanford to recruit the top minds in biomedical research

Sanford Burnham Prebys plans to recruit up to 20 new faculty positions in research areas including cancer, neurodegeneration and computational biology. A substantial gift from noted businessman and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford will support this initiative.

“Denny is a visionary committed to making a better world,” says David A. Brenner, M.D., president and CEO of Sanford Burnham Prebys. “This is a transformational investment in the continued strength of biomedical research at Sanford Burnham Prebys and across the Torrey Pines Mesa. We are grateful for his support, which helps us translate discoveries into improving human health.”

YOU MAKE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE

The accomplishments and stories you’ve read about in this newsletter are possible because of your support. Every discovery we make and every life we change begins with you.

And right now, you can double your impact on Sanford Burnham Prebys.

We’ve raised $25,000 in matching funds so that your gift today will have twice the impact!

This year we are raising money to give our researchers the gift of computational biology.

Computational biology gives our researchers the power to see things they would never see otherwise! (Our researchers had a little fun with 3D glasses to prove the point.)

With the power of computational biology, our researchers can analyze huge amounts of big data amounts so large that the human mind alone could never analyze them.

We hope you will consider giving our researchers this powerful tool!

Make a Gift

If it helps, here’s what our researchers are saying about computational biology:

"Because of computational biology, scientists can now target mutated cancer genes that we wouldn’t have thought possible before—it’s a game changer."

Pamela Itkin-Ansari, Ph.D.

"Computational biology helps us find our way through complex datasets that come from our research. It’s like helping us find a needle in a haystack."

Cynthia Lebeaupin, Ph.D.

"Computational biology gives every researcher the vision to see things we never even dreamed of before. Imagine what the invention of the microscope did centuries ago. Computational biology is the microscope of the 21st century. It will benefit every researcher and area of science."

Michael Jackson, Ph.D.

Thank you for making our important work possible.

An act of care for 2023

From exploring pancreatic cancer treatment to understanding cancer disparities, our efforts have relied on your support for 46 years of discovery. In thanks, we want to give you or someone you know the gift of self-care this New Year with a free estate planning resource from our friends at FreeWill. Their free and secure online tool guides you through creating your will in as little as 20 minutes.

Many of our supporters choose to create a legacy gift to Sanford Burnham Prebys in their wills. This is completely optional and costs nothing today, but gives our scientists the power to cure for generations to come. Care for yourself and all you love today!
