Layer Up and Keep Your Eyes Open

I am looking out our kitchen window and see a sifting of powdered sugar snow gently falling upon the earth. Such signs of winter have been absent for the past couple of unseasonably warm weeks. I need to remind myself not to put away the snow shovel yet. This is another reminder of impermanence; the dance of what we can never anticipate.

It is funny how humans spend so much time and effort in service of controlling what cannot be controlled. We can make wise choices based on natural tendencies. We can probably rely on winter being cold at some point, so we layer up and adapt to changeable conditions in that context.

That is all we can do: be prepared for whatever arises based on the context. Also, it is important to never assume we can prepare for everything. How flexible can we be? Ten years ago, on a nice sunny day, I walked across the street in a crosswalk and ended up in the hospital. Even layering up cannot prevent that.

May all beings experience the grace of the unknown and discover peaceful awareness inside the wondrous display of change.

Much Love,

🙏🏼🌎❤️Michael

"Generosity brings happiness at every stage of its expression.

We experience joy in forming the intention to be generous.

We experience joy in the actual act of giving something.

And we experience joy in remembering the fact that we have given."
