On this day, I feel a bit cloudy, mourning the loss of our national innocence. We have been naive for way too long about the effects of our collective actions on the planet, and it now is coming back to bite us in the form of an authoritarian regime. Samsara has reared its head, and we can no longer look away.
Amidst this heaviness, I feel a groundswell of compassion taking shape in fits and starts, waving in the placards of protesters and resounding in the hearts of beings standing up for those abused by the encroaching political system. Another cycle begins.
May we act as Manjushri’s sword to sever the sprouts of suffering and replant a new crop that feeds everyone equally. That is my prayer.
