Springs of Contemplation
I have fond memories of hiking to Tyee Springs with my root teacher, Khenchen Palden Sherab Rinpoche. He was aways a bit wild in natural settings. He would let out a “whoop!" for no apparent reason other than to express his joy. When we arrived at the spring, he immediately walked into the water and offered prayers for the benefit of all beings.
I think this is what our contemplative life offers us; a chance to refresh ourselves at the headwaters of realization and offer a prayer for others. Every time we turn on the tap to get a drink of water, we can offer a prayer that all beings have enough water to drink and cleanse themselves. This is the true spring of our practice.
