BOARD OF EDUCATION TO MEET MARCH 23, 2021
The SAUSD Board of Education is scheduled to meet telephonically March 23, 2021. Closed session is from 5-6 p.m.; open session begins at 6 p.m. Click here to access the agenda and to learn more about submitting a request to address the Board during the meeting.
SAUSD EMPLOYEE NAMED FINALIST IN COUNTY CLASSIFIED COMPETITION
Superintendent Jerry Almendarez and other District leaders gathered last week, with colorful balloons in hand, to surprise and congratulate SAUSD’s Patricia Mendez on being named a finalist in the 2021 Orange County Classified School Employee of the Year competition. Mendez, an activity monitor at Esqueda Elementary, is known for her caring attitude, her stellar organization skills and her ability to connect deeply with families. Read more about her here.
SUPERINTENDENT STATEMENT REGARDING INCLUSION AND RESPECT
Superintendent Jerry Almendarez has issued a new statement for the SAUSD community denouncing violence against the Asian-American community and encouraging inclusion and respect for all. Read it here.
IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING CHEERLEADING IN SAUSD
State officials have issued new guidance allowing cheerleaders to participate in high school athletic competitions. Sideline cheer is now an allowable sport under California Department of Public Health’s youth and adult recreational sports guidelines. Just like student athletes, cheerleaders must follow all safety guidelines currently in effect. For cheer, this means participants must practice social distancing and wear masks during all activities.
SAUSD SERVES UP 5 MILLION FREE MEALS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC 
A year after committing to provide free, nutritious meals to local children in the face of the growing COVID-19 pandemic, SAUSD recently reached the milestone of providing 5 million free meals to the community. Following the vision of the Board of Education, the District has launched and expanded its free meal service several times during the pandemic to better serve parents and guardians who rely on the District for food resources. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: BOCA DE ORO NOW ONLINE
Student artists from across SAUSD recently came together to showcase their skills during the Boca de Oro festival, which is still available for a limited time in an on-demand platform. This highlight reel features a few of the many sessions available for supporters to watch at their convenience. Register by March 28 at www.bocadeoro.org to watch all sessions through April 4.
SAUSD NOW SERVING FREE WEEKEND MEALS TO CHILDREN
To increase support to our SAUSD community, the District has begun serving weekend meals to all children. Every Friday, children are served a breakfast, lunch, snack, and a “super snack” for both Saturday and Sunday in addition to Friday’s meals. Parents, guardians, or other family members are still allowed to pick up meals for any child under the age of 18. Click here to view the distribution schedule.
HOW TO SUBMIT A STUDENT RECORDS REQUEST FOR DACA
Support Services has added information to its website for those interested in submitting a student records request for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to SAUSD. Click here for directions.
