SAUSD DISTRICT OFFICE NAMED FOR CITY FOUNDER W.H. SPURGEON
The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) this week celebrated the naming of the District Office for city founder William H. Spurgeon. Members of the Spurgeon family joined District leaders, including Board of Education Vice President Valerie Amezcua and Superintendent Jerry Almendarez, for the dedication ceremony of the W.H. SAUSD HOSTS YALE ST. HOMELESS SHELTER COMMUNITY INFORMATION MEETING
SAUSD hosted a meeting this week at Godinez Fundamental High School to inform the community about the Yale Transitional Center. District leaders, including Board of Education President Dr. Rigo Rodriguez, Board of Education Vice President Valerie Amezcua, Superintendent Jerry Almendarez and SAUSD School Chief of Police Anastasia Smith, spoke about the project, about homeless related incidents at schools, and about the District’s actions regarding the project over the last two years. SCHOOL CHOICE FAIR SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 1
Come and learn about the variety of programs offered at SAUSD schools during the 6th Annual School Choice Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at MainPlace Mall. Schools and departments from across the District will provide information on our award-winning campuses and our wide selection of programs, including STEM, early learning, dual language, Speech & Debate, and Visual and Performing Arts, in addition to our 35 career pathways, nationally ranked culinary program, and more.

SAUSD recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the P2P project at Carver Elementary School, which included the removal of portable classrooms and the construction of permanent state-of-the-art classrooms in their place. Click here to watch!

SAHS BAND DIRECTOR NAMED FINALIST FOR GRAMMY EDUCATOR AWARD
Victor de los Santos, director of bands for Santa Ana High School, made international headlines recently when he was named a finalist for the highly-selective Grammy 2020 Music Educator Award for the third year in a row! SAUSD COACHES MARK CAREER VICTORIES 
SAUSD coaches are in the news! Both OC Sports Zone and the Orange County Register published stories this week about legendary Santa Ana High boys soccer Coach Joe Peñaflor making his 300th career victory. OC Sports Zone also has a story on long-time Saddleback High boys soccer coach Mel Silva celebrating his 500th career coaching victory Wednesday. Congratulations to both!
