Santa Fe Chapter | Newsletter | August 2020
Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.
COORDINATOR'S CORNER
This month we are starting to offer our monthly program online. It will usually be on the fourth Monday of the month, the day we typically meet for the in-person program. Offering our monthly program online will give us the opportunity to hear presentations on a variety of topics. We hope you will join us for our August program!

We are also offering many events each month and would love to have you attend. They are fun and educational and a great way to stay connected with others even when we can’t get together in person. Members and non-members are welcome to attend each of these, and we encourage you to look over the choices in this newsletter and make a point to attend at least one in August. We’d love to “see” you and would welcome your participation.

We don’t know when we will be able to begin meeting together again in person. We look forward to that time when it is safe enough to do so, and in the meantime hope to see you at some of our online programs and events!

MONTHLY MEETING
MONDAY • AUGUST 24 • 7:00 – 8:00 PM
PROGRAM: FENG SHUI –
HOW IT CAN INFLUENCE YOUR LIFE
Online via Zoom (See link below)
Join feng shui consultant, Helen Doherty, as she introduces us to a method developed through centuries by observing the patterns and cycles of nature. It is about your surroundings – is the energy of your home or business balanced? And, therefore, is your body and your mind balanced? Feng shui is about YOU - are you receiving the beneficial energies so that you and your business can reach full potential?

The following handouts will be discussed during the program:
Helen Doherty uses feng shui methods that have been passed from master to student through dozens of generations, and is a member of Alliance Feng Shui (AFS), a select international organization of experts that concentrates on traditional feng shui for the corporate client.

Helen has lived on both coasts of Canada, and London, England and now makes her home in northern New Mexico.

Helen has been working in the field of architecture and planning for over thirty years and is a Registered Architect. Visit her website at e5consultancy.com for more information.

LIVING ALONE DURING THE PANDEMIC
Online via Zoom (see link below)
How can I deal with the logistical challenges of day to day life? How might we be able to help each other with the zillion tasks we each have to do? Could you use some assistance or do your friends or family members need help that you might be able to provide? It’s often very hard to work up the courage to ask for it. And it can be really complicated to get help doing even little things these days. Let’s hear about what we, or others we know, might need and how to ask for or offer assistance.

Open to TTN members and non-members

Host: Gini Barrett

IDENTITY THEFT – ARM YOURSELF WITH TOOLS TO PREVENT IT!
Online via Zoom (see link below)
We have all heard stories of lives turned upside down due to identity theft. Cyber-criminals troll for those who either do not understand their trappings or are lured in by the urgency of their message. Although nothing is fool proof, with a few simple tools we all have the power to make certain we are no easy mark. Join host Dotti Graviet for this informative event which will focus on effective, simple and practical ways to protect yourself.

Open to TTN Members and non-members

Taking a mid-afternoon break helps finish the rest of the day energized and refreshed. It allows us to unwind from doing tasks and having to be so focused. Feel free to bring your favorite coffee, tea or other beverage and Take a Break! We hope you can join us.

MORE VIRTUAL EVENTS!
For information about interesting offerings from other chapters that you can attend, on the TTN website, go to Chapters/Santa Fe/Events and you will find a listing of events available to you.

Our Santa Fe Virtual events are listed also there for a second place to find them.

We encourage you to explore all these virtual offerings and to take advantage of these opportunities to learn and share.
When This Is Over
May we never again
Take for granted
A handshake with a stranger
Full shelves at the store
Conversations with the neighbors
A crowded theatre
Friday night out
The taste of communion
A routine checkup
The school rush each morning
Coffee with a friend
The stadium roaring
Each deep breath
A boring Tuesday
Life itself.
When this ends
May we find
That we have become
More like the people
We wanted to be
We were called to be
We hoped to be
And may we stay
That way – better
For each other
Because of the worst.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE
TTN NATIONAL ZOOM CALL ON MEMBERSHIP
Lisa McGee, Membership Co-Coordinator, recently participated in a Membership call with other chapters, and reports the following:

I especially enjoyed connecting with other TTN leaders from Chicago, Philadelphia, and all over the US to hear about their innovative ways of retaining members and getting new members. Some ideas were to have special interest groups, follow up with people after Zoom events and offer a greater variety of Zoom topics.

My favorite part was hearing how people described the value of being a TTN Member. Some of the expressed benefits were: opportunity for connection, mutual support, meet with people without having to drive anywhere, make new friends, continue being a life-long learner, tips and skills on managing transitions, and finding a place to share feelings and solutions.

I laughed at someone’s observation that: “TTN is cheaper than a Netflix subscription—and we are interactive.” How true!
WE APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT!
If you have ideas you’d like to suggest that the chapter offer or do, or would like to share your thoughts about the benefits of membership, please send them to Lisa McGee and Elena de Molina at santafechapter@thetransitionnetwork.org.
CHAPTER NEWS
HIGHLIGHTS OF JULY VIRTUAL EVENTS!
TTN offered a variety of virtual events in July. Here are comments from some of the members and non-members who joined in the events offered on Zoom:

  • Happy Hour - a lot of fun; a great group; talked about many different topics and the time flew
  • BBQ Bravado with Chef Johnny Vee – class incredible, food delicious, informative and fun
  • Meet and Greet – good to connect with each other and enjoyed ourselves
  • Living Alone During the Pandemic – participants moved here recently and are adjusting to that; missing being able to do the things that they came for because of the pandemic; connecting with out of town friends
  • Resilience in Uncertain Times – appreciating that I’m not alone in my feelings; realizing that suffering is a part of life for all humans; writing down three things to be grateful for each day; asking “Is what I’m doing helping me or harming me?”

Our virtual events provide a way to stay connected during this time of continued social distancing. We’d love to have you join us in August!
SUGGESTIONS FOR
FUTURE VIRTUAL EVENTS?
We would love your help and ideas:
  • What kind of virtual events would you like us to offer?
  • Do you have a subject you’d like to offer?
  • Would you like to host one of the online events?
