Introducing the first Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization Quarterly Newsletter! Each quarter we'll share developments in the programs, plans, and projects we're working on.

Ongoing through November: Santa Fe Youth Transportation/Urban Design Photo Competition

The Santa Fe MPO is excited to co-sponsor with the American Planning Association New Mexico Chapter, the first Santa Fe Youth Transportation/Urban Design Photo Competition!

Youth ages 13-18 are eligible to submit photos taken in 2020 that capture and describe transportation in Santa Fe as seen and experienced by the young, old, merchants, disabled, tourists and anyone else. This is an especially unique time where COVID-19 restrictions may have altered peoples means of traveling in Santa Fe. Creative images that tell a story or have a message are desired.

We invite youth to help tell that story with their photography.

Free Transportation Activity Book for Kids!

The Santa Fe MPO worked with consultants to create a kid's complement to the Metropolitan Transportation Plan: an engaging story book with activities! The book provides an opportunity for kids to think about transportation in their community with main character Francis, fun activities, and links to videos and more information.

An interactive pdf is available online and hard copies will be coming soon to libraries and schools.

Walking and Biking Increase in Santa Fe During COVID-19

The MPO conducted a survey with the below question in May and June with 78 respondents.

Did you know the MPO has five permanent people counters on multi-use trails around Santa Fe?

These counters show us people are walking, biking, scootering, etc in record numbers!

From March to July:

58% increase in trail use compared to 2019
118,113 more times people went past our counters compared to 2019

Every trail counter shows increases over 2019. Dive into the preliminary data here!

Plan and Program Updates

Santa Fe 2020-2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Adopted

The Transportation Policy Board adopted the MTP on May 28, 2020. Access the plan here.

Public Participation Plan (PPP) Updated and Adopted

The PPP was adopted by the Transportation Policy Board on May 28, 2020. An overview is available in English and Spanish.

2021-2022 Unified Planning and Work Program (UPWP) Adopted

The UPWP outlines the MPO planning activities and funding over a two-year period.
