Santa Fe Chapter | Newsletter | March 2019
Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.
COORDINATOR'S CORNER
Since moving to Santa Fe more than a year ago, I am learning to appreciate the changing seasons in a new way and to become aware of the lessons they bring. Each season brings its own gifts if we are awake and open to accept them. March feels like a time of transition when we leave winter behind and gradually move into the blossoming and awakening of springtime. It also is a time when the fierce winds kick up here in the high desert, relentlessly challenging everything in their path.

This in-between time is similar to what we sometimes experience in our lives. In times of change, willingly or not, we leave something behind and step forward into something new and unfamiliar. In the midst of this process we may feel like we are being buffeted by unbearably strong winds and it can be uncomfortable and unsettling to find ourselves in this unknown territory. Rather than resisting what we are experiencing (trying to push against the wind!), I have found that in trusting ourselves and making friends with the unpredictable currents of change, we can find our way through.

I have learned from the March wind to welcome the cleansing and clarity it brings, to use the unsettling energy of this in-between time to sweep my life clear of unwanted things and ideas that I have been clinging to, and to open myself to something new that is waiting to enter my life. This is the perfect time to get rid of clutter in your home and to clear your mind of outdated and unhelpful mental habits. Let this time of change remind you of the natural transition between the stark, quiet, inward nature of winter and the outward facing, effusive energy of springtime, and to harness the unsettling forces of the March winds to make space in your life for whatever new growth is awaiting you in the months ahead. Take a lesson from nature and as we say farewell to winter, prepare for something new and beautiful to awaken and blossom in your life!

Please join me and the amazing women of the Santa Fe Chapter of TTN for our inspiring programs and lively events this month. I look forward to seeing you!

WEEKDAY AFTERNOON RIVER TRAIL WALK
Casa Solana Center
Start the new year off with trying new places to walk and hike safely. As a former outdoor safety and mountain climbing instructor, Carol Pava as your guide will review the 10 essentials to prepare for any conditions. The goal is to build endurance and work up in distance and elevation to be able to do Atalaya Peak, 7 RT miles from St. John’s trailhead, 1,781 ft gain.

We will hike along the charming River Trail of 2-4 miles to Frenchy’s Park on Aqua Fria. It is a flat few miles on the snow cleared, smooth concrete walkway in the sunshine on the southside banks. There are bridges along the way to turn back for a mile to 4 mile loop going as far as Frenchy’s Park on Aqua Fria. Have gloves, hat, traction shoes, wool socks, and layers for warmth if there’s a breeze.

Email  carolofpava@gmail.com to plan more hikes.

* Meet at Casa Solana Center near the State Farm gray building on right corner.

Open to TTN members and non-members!

NOTE: Email carolofpava@gmail.com if weather is bad so we can re-schedule.
