Santa Fe Chapter | Newsletter | May 2019
Santa Fe TTN is organized and led entirely by volunteers.
COORDINATOR'S CORNER
I love this time of year when it feels like the Earth is once again coming alive. It is a time of awakening and renewal when the boundless diversity and breathtaking beauty of the natural world takes me by surprise, as if I am experiencing all this aliveness for the first time. The sense of exuberant expansiveness is infectious, and it brings us out of the enclosed spaces where we have been hibernating during the previous months and out into the light and warmth.

This month I want to make it a practice to honor and appreciate all this aliveness, to make it a point to be aware of my life in the present moment. When I take a moment to stop and take a deep breath and just notice my life as it is right here and right now, I connect with this great vitality that is flowing through everything. I feel compassion and kindness for myself and others.

As you go through this month, ask yourself when considering what action to take or words to say, “Does this affirm life? Or will it cause harm?” Be aware of your self-talk and ask the same questions. We often are far less compassionate to ourselves, than we are to others! Notice your judgements, comparisons and criticism. Try becoming more aware of your actions and your choices and make it a point to choose those that are life affirming. Open your mind and heart and let the all-encompassing energy of awakening, aliveness and renewal guide you as you move through each day. Appreciate this moment. The result may surprise you!

Please join me and the amazing women of the Santa Fe Chapter of TTN for our inspiring programs and lively events this month. Our monthly program on May 20th will be Writing Through Transition, presented by local writing mentor and TTN member, Joanne Brown. We hope you will join us!

“Be like a flower and turn your face to the sun.” - Kahlil Gibran

WRITING THROUGH TRANSITION
Montezuma Lodge, 431 Paseo de Peralta
How often have you heard people say that writing has helped them come to terms with something difficult, heal from loss or grief, changed them, even saved their lives? Have you ever tried writing through a challenging transition?

Scientific research shows a connection between opening up about difficult circumstances and positive changes in brain and immune function, and that writing about oneself and personal experiences can improve health, and even boost memory and happiness.

In this interactive session, we’ll explore this fascinating area, and write together! Bring some writing paper and your favorite pen!

Joanne Fay Brown, MSW, is a poet and writer and an Amherst Writers & Artists workshop leader. She worked as a writer in the corporate world for 25 years and now devotes time to writing poetry, and to the magic of writing with others.

Suggested donation: $5.00
