COORDINATOR'S CORNER
Silver Linings
Last month, as the new Santa Fe Chapter Coordinator, I attended the National TTN chapter leaders meeting, talking about the “Silver Linings” of the year. We can all see the 2020 finishing line quickly approaching and breathe a sigh of relief that this year is over, yet there are positive things that have come out of this year.

  1. Creativity is at an all-time high- we have had to pivot, adjust and adapt, and find new ways of keeping the things that have meaning as part of our lives. This results in huge shifts in mental perspectives, keeping us fresh and on our toes.
  2. We've found ways to combat loneliness and isolation...- we have so many more opportunities to connect and bond with each other and explore different communities and cultures while doing so. Meeting a new friend (or TTN member) from across the states is now doable- and welcomed.
  3. Generosity and community mindedness are spiking- we are showing what generosity in action looks like, in how we are taking care of our communities and each other. And ourselves- in a new, slower pace of life that frees us in so many ways.

So, as we wind down a year that we will never forget, and anticipate the hope of 2021, let’s not forget the lessons we’ve learned. I hope to see all you at our Holiday Celebration on December 14 from 6-7:30 PM. We have some great activities planned!

TTN SANTA FE CHAPTER HOLIDAY CELEBRATION
Note this is the second Monday of the month
due to the December holidays.
Online via Zoom (see link below)
Join us for camaraderie, conversation and some festive fun at our virtual holiday celebration! It’s a different kind of year and December is no exception. Be entertained by participating as a contributor and/or listener as we enjoy each other’s company.

We invite you to read a poem, share a funny or memorable holiday story or special holiday tradition. Tell us about a favorite food or drink you have prepared or enjoyed. Delight us as you play a musical instrument or sing a solo. Together we will sing some holiday songs in the privacy of our own homes so no one will know if we are on or off key! Come enjoy the evening of connection and care for ourselves and others.

Open to TTN members and non-members!

REEL REVIEW: MY OCTOPUS TEACHER (NETFLIX)
Online via Zoom (see link below)
A nature documentary? A love story? What happens when a burned-out filmmaker takes a break and meets a special creature? If ever there was a time for watching films and gathering (on Zoom) to share what we learned, thought or felt, it is now. Sometime before Dec. 10th watch this film, then join me to chat. We might explore whether we want to make Reel Reviews a regular thing.

Produced and filmed in Africa, My Octopus Teacher is an international hit. A filmmaker, Craig Forest, forges an unusual friendship with an octopus living in a South African kelp forest, learning as the animal shares the mysteries of her world.

Open to TTN members and non-members!

DEEP SELF CARE WITH MUSIC
Online via Zoom (see link below)
Let’s have some fun together! What is your favorite music for feeling good, for soothing your anxiety or fear, for celebrating, for meditating, or for relaxing? What gets you moving or singing? What helps you to fall sleep? Bring your favorite music to share. PLEASE have it ready to go before you join on Zoom using whatever device you want so long as we will all be able to hear it.

We will share favorite music, movement, and songs to enjoy together. We will each leave with new insights as to what enlivens us and reassures us. You can then use these insights to improve your time alone.

BOOK DISCUSSION: My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry, by Fredrik Backman
Online via Zoom (see link below)
Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy —as in standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-strangers crazy. She is Elsa’s best and only friend. When her grandmother dies and leaves behind letters to apologize to people she has wronged, Elsa’s greatest adventure begins. Written by Fredrik Backman, the author of the New York Times bestseller, A Man Called Ove, it is a charming, warmhearted novel about life and death, hope and forgiveness, and one of the most important human rights: the right to be different. Expect to laugh and to cry, so keep Kleenex nearby.

Available at Santa Fe Library, and as low as $1.50 for used editions online.

Open to TTN members and non-members!

It’s time to say good-bye to 2020 and start looking forward to a New Year! We have made it through some very challenging times and now let’s turn our focus toward the year ahead. What changes would we like to make to enhance our own well-being? What interests or issues are calling to us to become more actively involved? How can we share our strengths and gifts with the world in more meaningful ways?

Join host Ellen Wetzel for an informal time of sharing our experiences, suggestions and resources for surviving and thriving during these uncertain times.
